1. Vinod Kambli’s Test match average is better than his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar.

Vinod Kambli’s Test average is 54.20 (in 17 test matches) while that of Sachin is 53.78 after 200 Tests.

2. Sunil Gavaskar was out of the first ball of a Test match thrice in his career.

The member of the 10000 runs club; Sunil Gavaskar has three ducks to his account on the very first ball of the match. Geoff Arnold (Edgbaston, 1974), Malcolm Marshall (Kolkata, 1984) and Imran Khan (Jaipur, 1987) were the reason for his return to pavilion without scoring.

3. The only cricketer to play Test cricket for India and England is Saif Ali Khan’s grandfather, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi.

4. Chris Gayle is the only batsman to hit a six off the first ball of a Test match.

Gayle achieved this feat against Bangladesh in 2012.

5. Shahid Afridi used Sachin Tendulkar’s bat to hit 37 ball century in an ODI.

During a match in 1996 young Afridi didn’t have a proper bat during a match. That’s when Waqar Younis gave Sachin Tendulkar’s bat to Afridi. And a history was made that day, Afridi hit 11 sixes and six boundaries scoring a 37 ball century against Sri Lanka which remained record of fastest ODI century for eighteen years. In 2014 the record was broken by New Zealand’s Corey Anderson(36 balls), and in 2015 South Africa AB de Villiers (31 balls).

6. Abbas Ali Baig was the first Indian cricketer to be kissed during a Test.

It was when Abbas Ali Baig reached the mark of scoring 50 runs against Australia at the Brabourne Stadium in 1960, a girl who came running towards him and kissed him on his cheeks.

7. ML Jaisimha and Ravi Shastri are the only Indians to bat on all five days of a Test

8. Sanath Jayasuriya has taken more ODI wickets than Shane Warne.

9. The only country to win the 60-Over, 50-Over and 20-Over World Cup is India.

10. Alec Stewart was born on, 8th April 1963 and he scored 8463 Test runs.

14. Allan Border played 153 consecutive Test matches.

Recently the record was broken by England opener batsman, Alastair Cook.

15. English player Wilfred Rhodes played Test cricket till the age of 52.

There’s only one person who witnessed Jim Laker and Anil Kumble taking 10 wickets in an innings.

16. Adam Gilchrist holds the record for playing the most number of Tests matches from Debut without been dropped.

Gilchrist played 96 matches from 5th November 1999 to 24th January 2008 without being dropped.

17. When all four innings of a Test match was played on the same day.

A test is played for five days and a team plays two innings each that makes it four innings. The numbers of balls you can face is not defined, you can bat even for all five days. But it was when the world saw all the four innings on the same day. The 2000 Lord’s Test between England and West Indies saw all four innings on the same day. In 2011 the feat was repeated in Cape Town between Australia and South Africa.

18. On the morning of 11/11/11 South Africa needed 111 runs to win at 11:11.

19. Peter Siddle of Australia is the only bowler in international cricket to take a hat-trick on his birthday.

This happened in 25th November, 2010, during the Brisbane Test against England.

20. Leslie Hylton of West Indies is the only cricketer to be hanged for murder.

21. Indian spinner Bapu Nadkarni bowled 21 consecutive maiden overs against England at Chennai.

Nadkarni acheived this feat on 12th January 1964. His bowling figures were 32-27-5-0 with economy rate of 0.15.

22. Sachin Tendulkar played for Pakistan before making his international debut for India.

During Pakistan tour of India in 1987, Sachin was sent in as a substitute fielder for Pakistan team during a festival match with India at Brabourne stadium, Mumbai. Abdul Qadir and Javed Miandad had left the field at lunch time and Tendulkar was asked to field. Imran Khan deployed him at long-on.

23. Chris Martin of New Zealand and India’s BS Chandrasekhar have taken more test wickets than the runs they have scored.

Chris Martin has taken 233 wickets and scored 123 runs while Chandrasekhar picked 247 wickets and scored 167 runs.

24. There is a strange similarity between the India Pakistan match in the Austral-Asia Cup of 1986 and Asia Cup of 2014.

26. Sir Jack Hobbs of England holds the record of scoring 199 first class century.

27. Sunil Gavaskar scored an unbeaten 36 off 174 balls, in a Prudential World Cup.

In 1975 Prudential World Cup, England set the target of 335 for India in 60 overs. Gavaskar opened for India and stood unbeaten till the end with 36 runs off 174 balls. India scored 132 runs after losing 3 wickets in 60 overs.
