When they met during their stay in Britain eventually, their bond became strong, and they got married in 1942. There were several assumptions that Indira’s parents had some objection to her marriage to Feroze. But once in an interview, dismissing all the rumors, Indira stated that, the speculations were partially true and that there were some objections. The objection was only due to her family’s concern about her husband’s capacity to support her in her aspirations and her distinctive way of living. She said,

“Well, there was some, not because he was a Parsi, but because he came from a different background. Also some of the older members thought he wouldn’t be able to support me in the way we … I had been living. He (Feroze Gandhi) was the only man in my life, then or ever. I shared my closest personal moments with him.”
