1. The director of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha approached Govinda to play the character of ‘Tara Singh’

Did you know that Sunny Deol was not the first choice to play the character of Tara Singh in Gadar? The director of the film, Anil Sharma reportedly approached Govinda for the lead role. After the film Maharaja starring Govinda was a flop at the box office, the director changed his mind and cast Sunny Deol as the lead.

And we support his decision as Sunny Deol did play the role of Tara Singh flawlessly and did the utmost justice to the lead character in the film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.

2. Anil Sharma’s first choice for the role of ‘Sakeena’ in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was Kajol

The well-known actress Kajol was one of the choices of the director for the cast as the lead actress. Most people are unaware of the fact that Gadar: Ek Prem Katha was inspired by the life and love story of the ex-soldier of the British Army, Boota Singh. Boota Singh rescued some people during the communal riots, among them he found his lady love. The soldier fell in love with a Muslim girl named, Zainab. They eventually got married and had beautiful kids.

However, their love life didn’t have a happy ending, as after the partition of India-Pakistan was officially announced, Zainab was sent to Pakistan. Boota Singh had to convert to Islam and go to Pakistan to take her back. But, due to her family’s pressure, Zainab was not allowed to be with him and was forced to marry someone of her family’s choice. Boota Singh was only allowed to take their daughter back from Pakistan. But the ex-soldier couldn’t take it anymore and committed suicide. He jumped in front of a moving train with his daughter. Fortunately, his daughter survived.

7. The scenes in the movie depicting Lahore were originally shot in Lucknow, India

All of the sequences in the film depicting Lahore were shot in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The famous confrontation scene of the movie was filmed at the La Martiniere Boys School in Lucknow. Lucknow’s Iqbal Manzil Palace was also among the places where the movie was shot.
