This place is a dreamland of food. One of the oldest markets of Delhi, it also houses eateries that have been there since decades. These are famous for their consistent taste and limited, hence, specialised food items. Chandni Chowk has a lot to offer to fascinate and delight your taste buds.

Let us take a look at some of the eateries at Chandni Chowk:

1. Old Famous Jalebi Wala (Dariba Kalan)

Famous for their combination of Jalebi – Rabri, this place is a must visit for people with a sweet tooth. Among the items they sell are Paneer Jalebi, Matar Samosa, Crunchy Jalebi, Aloo Samosa, Lassi, Jalebi Rabri. This eatery is open from 8AM to 10PM and does not have a seating facility.

2.  Paranthe Wali Gali

Fomous parantha joints in this area are Pt. Kanhaiyalal & Durga Prasad Paranthe Wale, Babu Ram Paranthe Wale, Pt. Gaya Prasad Shiv Charan Paranthe Wale.

These small joint serves 30 different varieties of parantha along with aaloo ki sabji, pumkin sabji, chutney and pickle on the sides. Although it has lost its popularity to more fancier and hygienic eateries, it still holds the old world’s charm. In fact, nowadays, many people prefer to visit this place for old times sake and relive their childhood. It is open from 9AM to 11PM.

3. Natraj Dahi Bhalle Corner (Main Road Near Central Bank, Opposite Paranthe Wali Gali)

This place is famous for their melt-in-the-mouth bhallas topped with chilled sweet curd and tamarind chutney. One could try their tikkis also as they are known to be crisp and flavoursome. It is open from 10:30AM to 9:30PM.

4. Shree Balaji Chaat Bhandar (Near Sheesh Ganj Sahib Gurudwara)

Go in here for an appetizing plateful of gol gappas and golgappa chaat. The taste here is quite different from the other golgappa joints. It is open from 12Noon to 10PM and does not have a seating facility.

5. Bishan Swaroop Chaat Bhandar (1421, Near Ashish Medicos)

Famous for its healthier-than-others range of items, it is a better way to satisfy your hunger cravings. Choose from the fruit chaat and aloo kulla for a healthy way of filling your tummies. Open from 10AM to 9PM, this place does not have a seating facility.

6. Karim’s (Gali Kababian, Jama Masjid)

A non vegetarian’s delight, this place is home to one of the best kebabs and tikkas of Delhi. From their melt-in-the-mouths seekh kebabs to delicious mutton korma, mutton burra and chicken Jahangiri, this eatery has the most amazingly scrumptious array of food items. Open from 9AM to 11:30PM, this place is a must visit for anyone who wants to experience true Delhi non vegetarian delights with an old world charm. Apart from the kebabs, my personal favourite is their Sheermal, which is a mildly sweet saffron-flavored flatbread, to be packed and relished along with a cup of tea, for days on!

7. Daulat Ki Chaat (streets of Chandni Chowk)

Concluding with a perfect dessert, Daulat ki chaat is a not even close to the usual chaat we get everywhere. It is sweet in taste and is made from milk, thereby, making it available only during winters. It is sold openly at stalls on the roadside.

Lajpat Nagar

One of the most popular markets of Delhi, it is not as widespread as Chandni Chowk and is more compact in relation to locating food joints when hungry. The roadside eateries sell everything from snacks to sandwiches to kadi chawal and choley kulche.

Here are some of the popular eateries in Lajpat Nagar:

1. Golden Fiesta (Central Market)

A respite since ages, it not only provides the necessary food and thirst quenchers, but also has a great variety to offer. Grilled Sandwich has been a favourite since years, but its Chinese Platter has also gained quite a lot of popularity in the recent times. It is open from 8:30AM to 9:30PM and does not have a seating facility.

2. Dolma Aunty Momos (Shop 39-B, Central Market)

For momo lovers, this place is heaven serving a good variety of melt-in-the-mouth momos along with a scrumptous red chilly sauce. Known for its quick service, this joint is open from 12Noon to 9PM, however, does not have a seating facility.

Sarojini Nagar

A mecca for young girls and boys, this place is famous for its export surplus clothes and almost all kinds of household items. And when you get tired from all the shopping, give yourself some respite by digging in at any of these places mentioned below:

1. Khandani Pakore Wala (Ring Road Market, Nauroji Nagar)

This eatery is known since ages for it wide variety of pakoras. The chutneys served with the pakoras are so tasty that they take them a notch higher! Open from 9AM to 10PM, this place is a take away joint and does not have a seating facility.

2. Kulcha King (Shop 144, Ring Road Market)

As the name suggests, it pioneers in selling mouth watering kulchas along with some savory and satisfying lassi. The kulchas are known to be so soft that they melt in your mouth. Open from 9AM to 5PM, this place does have a minimal seating.

Connaught Place

The business hub of Delhi, this place has many eateries, however, one that has been there since ages is Depaul’s. Located at Janpath, this place is famous for its variety of cold coffee. Shoppers at Janpath usually get a breather at Depaul’s as they can indulge in momos, sandwiches, burgers and cheese balls along with a bottle of chilled cold coffee. Open from 9AM to 7:30PM, Depauls is a take away joint with no seating facility.

Kamla Nagar

The most popular joint of this area, Chache di Hatti serves some mouthwatering choley bhature among other appetizing items. The choley are to die for and have been a hot favorite since ages. If around this area, make sure to visit this joint for a wonderful eating experience. Open from 9:30AM to 4PM, this eatery does not have a seating facility.

Greater Kailash

Prince Paan is the first thing you come across when you enter the main market area. It not only deals in a wide variety of paan, but also in lip smacking golgappas and chaat. Give yourself a little treat after hours of shopping at the market at this fascinating joint and you will know why Delhi stands unique when it comes to street food. Open from 10AM to 10PM, this is a take away joint only.

Karol Bagh

When you think of Karol Bagh and food, only one name comes to mind – Roshan di Kulfi. Those who have been there know how humble yet fascinating this eatery is, and for those who haven’t all we can say is, you have been missing out on something all this while! Situated on the Ajmal Khan Road, this place is famous for its kulfi, as the name suggests. Not only that, you can find a tantalizing spread of sweets and north and south Indian food items. My personal favourites are their golgappas and rajma chawal.

SDA Market

Spice Aangan in SDA Market is the most popular eating joint around that area. One of the best places for shawarmas, this place is open from 11AM to 11PM. Please not, it does not have a setaing facility.

Paharganj

Sita Ram Diwan Chand – This hidden gem in Paharganj is actually so popular in and around that area that it is also considered to be a landmark. Lip smacking choley bhature are served along with onion salad, mint chutney and carrot pickle make for a great wholesome meal. It is very easy on the pocket apart from being amazingly yum. This humble eatery is open from 8AM to 6:30PM, although with no seating facility.

Qutab Industrial Area

If you are around this place and looking for food, we got a perfect recommendation. Laxman Dhaba, located opposite IIFT, is the best place to go to, especially in winters. It is a wonderful experience just being there and sipping hot tea along with savory paranthas. They also serve other kinds of north Indian food items. We would also recommend a dish called ‘sexy paneer’. Open from 11AM to 11PM, this place has an outdoor seating facility.

Pitampura

Almost every foodie, who is especially fond of street food, is familiar with the famous eatery in Pitampura, Bittoo Tikki Wala. As evident from the name, it pioneers in making mouth watering tikkis. The joint has gained a lot of popularity over the years and opened a couple of branches in other areas of Delhi as well. Located in Sant Nagar, it is open from 10:30AM to 11PM and does not have a seating facility.

Mandi House

Bengali Market is one of most popular areas for street food in Delhi as it houses a couple of eateries which have been successfully serving exceptional food since ages. One can choose from the eateries and relish their food which ranges from Street food, North Indian, South Indian, desserts and Chinese. A personal favorite of mine which is not to be missed are the mouth watering golgappas.

The list is endless as there is some or the other joints in almost all the markets/ residential areas/ office complexes which are a staple with many people. However, we have listed a few of those that are worth trying at least once, to relish the street food culture of Delhi. Although it must be mentioned that many street food locations might not score much on the hygiene levels.
