Lakhs of students appear for the IIT JEE in India every year. All of them have the same thoughts at the back of their mind is to get into IIT and either create a kingdom of own or to join one with a good mercenary benefits. But of course, with a limited number of seats, not all of them get into it.
We do know the names of the people who did big while having IIT as their background, but there are people who did it without having a certificate from IIT.

1. Shashvat Nakrani – Co-founder BharatPe
BharatPe was co-founded by Shashvat Nakrani and Ashneer Grover, a Shark Tank India judge. He went to IIT Delhi but dropped out it in 2018 to start BharatPe, a UPI online money transfer operator. In 2021, he was recognized by the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List as the “youngest richest self-made” entrepreneur.
2. Azhar Iqubal – Co-founder & CEO Inshorts
Azhar Iqubal is the CEO and co-founder of Inshorts, a news app. The app is mainly about comprehending news into a few lines so it’s easier to grasp for people like us, with a work burden always running behind us.
He was a student at IIT Delhi studying Mathematics and Computer Science before leaving out in 2012 to concentrate on his software Inshorts.

3. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan – Nobel Prize, Chemistry in 2009
Venkatraman Ramakrishnan didn’t cleared the IIT entrance exam. Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was where he completed his undergraduate education.
“Studies of the structure and function of the ribosome” earned him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009. In 2010, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor.
4. Peyush Bansal – CEO & Co-founder Lenskart
Peyush Bansal took the IIT JEE but was not able to crack it. He subsequently went on to McGill University in Canada to pursue his Bachelor of Engineering degree. He is the co-founder of Lenskart and has a combined wealth of 600 crores.
Lenskart is an online eye-wear shopping portal, which also has an option on home eye tests, 3D eye-wear trials, and many more other jazzy stuff.
5. Satya Nadella – Executive Chairman & CEO Microsoft
Satya Nadella, the Executive Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, did not attend an IIT. He graduated from Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka with a BTech in Electrical Engineering.
6. Narayan Murthy – Founder of Infosys
Narayan Murthy took the IIT entrance exam and passed it, but he was unable to enroll since his father could not pay it because of their financial condition back at home. He later graduated from the National Institute of Engineering in Mysore with a BTech in Electrical Engineering.
He founded Infosys in 1981 with no prior business experience and now has a combined wealth of $4.4 billion.
These people prove that IITs are not the only path to success.
