ashneer-grover-Falhari pitch

Shark Tank India became an overnight hit, and the show’s massive popularity ushered in a new genre of Indian television. We even got seven interesting entrepreneurs as a result of the show.

Since the premiere of Shark Tank India on Indian television, we’ve witnessed a number of spectacular events on the show. If you’ve been watching the TV programme, you’ve probably seen the sharks lose their cool when it comes to contestants who come to present their company ideas and obtain funding.

On the reality programme Shark Tank India, BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover built quite a name. But his life beyond television has been just as interesting. Ashneer left BharatPe on Tuesday, only days after his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, was fired for suspected alleged corruption. Despite being ‘vilified’ in public, Ashneer claimed in his resignation letter that he is going with his head held high.

After appearing in the inaugural season of Shark Tank India with other entrepreneurs Anupam Mittal, Vineeta Singh, Namita Thapar, Peyush Bansal, Aman Gupta, and Ghazal Alagh, Ashneer became a household name.

Ashneer earned a fierce persona on the show after multiple intense clashes with businesses

During one of these encounters with team Falhari, he slammed a trio of entrepreneurs for not having a viable firm and recommended them to close up shop.

The three co-founders of Falhari, a fruit-selling company, pitched on the show, seeking for Rs. 50 lakh in exchange for a 2% stake in the company. Several sharks expressed interest at first, but Ashneer was fiercely opposed to the concept from the start. He went in after seeing Vineeta make them an offer and go beyond their revenue.

“Ab main bolta hoon ke tum chane ki jhaad pe na chadh jao ek offer ke baad. Tu band kar de. Agar tu ITO ke bahar fruit ka thela kholta, fruit juice ki dukaan kholta, tu isse zyaada dhanda karta, pata hai? Tum sab apni zindagi barbaad kar rahe ho. Yeh dhanda hai hi nahi. Kuch nahi hai dhanda.”

It loosely means that he doesn’t want their heads to swell following that offer.  They should close their shop. They would make more money if they opened a fruit stand outside of ITO than they do today. This isn’t a company, thus they’re wasting their time.

He went on to say by addressing one of the co-founders directly,

“Tu McKinsey mein kaam kar raha tha yaar. Tu kuch bhi problem utha lega na, tu start-up mein kaam kar lega na, tu crore rupaye kamayega saal ka. Tu kya kar raha hai yaar.”

By this, he meant to ask if is he thinking about leaving McKinsey? If he focuses on his thoughts on something else, he did be earning at least Rs 1 crore every year. What are his plans for the future?

Ashneer was particularly offended by the fact that the company’s most outspoken entrepreneur had the least amount of shares. The CEO justified himself with the following statement:

“Equity ki greed nahi hai”

It means that he doesn’t have equity’s greed.

By saying this he meant that what you have achieved?

Ashneer made sure to get the last word in after the entrepreneurs turned down Vineeta’s offer. He said to them,

“Tum khatam hone waale ho. Mera khoon khaul raha hai ke tumne teen degreeyaan waste kari hain”

By saying this, he claimed that they will be finished soon. His blood is boiling, and they’ve wasted three degrees in the process.
