Her extraordinary adventure started in Bangalore, when she married into a family of Naveen Jain, the love of her life. His family carefully observed traditional dress, especially sarees.
Dolly was initially hesitant and yearned for the freedom to wear a kurta, but her viewpoint eventually evolved. She revealed this during her appearance on the ‘Housewives Special’ episode of Indian Idol 13. Discussing her journey with host Aditya Narayan, she said,
“I got married into a household, where I had to wear a saree. I used to hate sarees. After marriage, I would take 45 mins to drape a saree everyday. I used to think everyday when my mother-in-law would allow me to wear a kurta instead of a saree. But she didn’t agree. By the time she agreed, I fell in love with sarees.”
She began exploring various draping ways, experimenting with new techniques, and bringing her own originality to the process. Eventually, she became more acclimated to consistently draping sarees.

Making a career in saree draping
She developed a newfound love and respect for the saree as a result of her path of self-discovery. This ultimately inspired her to perfect the technique of saree draping. In the same chat, Dolly also shared her challenges with choosing to make a career out of draping sarees. She said,
“Society gave me a very tough time. First they told me it’s a waste of time, called me crazy and told me I can’t earn by draping a saree. This was the statement told to me by the society. Today, I have proved everyone wrong and standing here.”
She discovered a deep appreciation for the six yards of fabric, eventually becoming a master of saree draping. However, her family members and friends laughed at her in her initial days because no one thought that draping would be a career. But her father reportedly supported her at every stage of her life.
Eventually, she becomes what she is today. Her skills are in high demand today. She charges lakhs of rupees for a single saree draping session, which she completes in only ten minutes.
