Divya Bharti And Sajid Nadiadwala's Beautiful Love Story

If you are an 80s kid, you would remember that era of the gorgeous Divya Bharti, dancing away to melodious songs and acting with all the grit! She was a rage in the 90s when we (I mean the 80s kids) were in our teens and danced to the tunes of her songs! Moreover, with social media’s only form of existence being the newly launched cable television apart from the ever green Doordarshan, Divya Bharti’s movies and songs were the next best thing! She was the prettiest girl in B-town with just the right mix of funk and elegance, and her acting skills were cherry on the cake. She held the ‘unbroken’ record of acting in 14 Hindi films between 1992 and 1993 and also received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for Deewana. However, the glamourous life of the nation’s new sweetheart was short-lived as she fell to her death on April 5th, 1993, when she was only 19.

Hardly anyone knew of her marriage to Sajid Nadiadwala

While there were many speculations around her death (some believed it to be a murder and not an accident), the incident still remains a mystery. However, there was one aspect of the Divya’s short life that very few people knew about – her marriage. She was married to film producer Sajid Nadiadwala, however, their marriage was always kept under wraps.

Divya dropped hints of her marital status in two interviews

For the outside world though, the marriage was a distant topic as even the relationship was kept a secret. There were only rumours of something brewing between the two, as finally, during an interview in 1992, Divya explained the importance of Sajid in her life –

“If I was even half as notorious as people made me out to be, then would such a caring man like Sajid still be with me? We have been going around for nearly one and a half year now. And things have been just terrific between us. The advantage is that Sajid is very mature and a very experienced man. He has been through a lot in life. Whenever I behave childishly or sulk then Sajid explains things to me. He tells me what is right and what is wrong. I trust his judgement he is never wrong.”

And speculations grew stronger regarding their relationship. In the beginning of the year 1993, Divya gave another interview to the Stardust magazine where she said that she had a big announcement to be made in the coming year, 1994.

She died due to severe head injuries and internal bleeding sustained from the fall. While the investigation of her death was closed in 1998 by the Mumbai Police, the cause being accidental death, there were and still are many speculations around her death.
