Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the most talented and versatile actors of the industry. With back-to-back hits, he has proved that only talent rocks in this industry. This is known to all that the actor is married to Tahira Kashyap for more than 10 years. The couple is proud parents of two kids- Virajveer and Varushka. It won’t be wrong to say that even after so many years of marriage, they continue to give us relationship goals. Today, we are going to tell you about the love story of this wonderful couple.
Bachpan ka pyaar
Ayushmann and Tahira are from Chandigarh. Their love story started when they went to the same tuition in class 12th. In one of the interviews, Tahira said,
“Both of us attended the same Physics tuition class when we were in the 12th standard. It was a batch of around 60 students and when I first met Ayushmann, I thought his name was Abhishek. Both me and my friend had a crush on him, but outwardly ignored him throughout the year. I later discovered that he also had a crush on me.”
The actor once revealed in an interview, his reaction when he came to know that Tahira liked him. He said,
“When I got to know that she has a crush on me, I couldn’t believe it. I never ever thought she could feel this way for me. There were so many good looking guys in the class! I was nowhere close to them. Also I didn’t believe in looking around or indulging in mild flirtations. Class over, I would head home. So, when someone told me that Tahira had a crush on me, I was on cloud nine. The girl, who every guy had a crush on, had a crush on me! It seemed impossible but I was damn happy.”
Love story like Bollywood movies
Both of them liked each other but they never confessed. One day, Tahira’s father told her that they are going to his old friend’s place, who is an astrologer. She got excited and thought that she would ask him questions related to her competitive exams. After reaching there, she came to know that it was Ayushmann’s residence. Both of them didn’t have the idea that their parents know each other. That day, they finally started talking.
Talking about that night, Ayushmann said,
“During that family dinner, we became friends. I played along that night. (Laughs) I behaved normally and didn’t let her know that I knew she had a crush on me.”
Tahira, on the other hand, said,
“I had this impression of him being a ‘cute guy’. But that night, he bowled me over with his charm, wit and of course, with the songs he sang.”
They became good friends and started dating. Both did master’s in Mass Communication at Punjab University from different colleges. They competed with each other in debate and dramatics competition. Later, they joined the same theatre group. Tahira said,
“He was a part of Aaghaaz in DAV College and I was a part of the SD College theatre group. Later, we floated a new theatre group outside our colleges, Manchtantra. Pizzeria in Sector 9, Kashyap canteen and Stu-C on PU campus, and Stop n’ Stare in Sector 10, were our favourite haunts.”
Tahira married to Ayushmann when he was just a struggling actor. While talking to Mid-day, Ayushmann said,
“When I got married, I had no money. Tahira has been doing better than me professionally for the longest time. She was gutsy enough to marry a man just for love and have faith in his talent. She is a rockstar; she was a professor, had her own PR firm in Chandigarh. She was also the programming head of a radio station in Punjab. She supported me in every possible way. I was a struggling actor, which is often a gamble. But there was never any ego between us. When there’s love, there’s no scope for ego. Most men in India aren’t secure enough to be comfortable with such an arrangement. It comes with the family. It depends on how your father treats your mother. But a man, no matter where he comes from, could always trigger a change. If it’s a patriarchal family, the dynamics are different. In my case, Tahira became the daughter in a household that had none.”
Ayushmann and Tahira always wanted marriage but when he told about his desire to become an actor, she lost her hopes. However, she supported him. He said,
“We wanted to get married. That was our only plan after college. We didn’t think about our careers, but only about how and when we would get married. However, when I shared my aspirations of becoming an actor with her, she gave up all hopes of marriage. She knew that her parents wouldn’t accept ‘an actor’ or be cool with the idea of their daughter leading such a life in Mumbai.”
Talking about how Ayushmann proposed to her, Tahira said,
“Ayushmann formally proposed to me just last year when we got married in November 2011. He did it like a gentleman with a ring, music playing in the background, red roses, wine and a romantic candlelight dinner.”
The couple took wedding vows in 2011.
Even after marriage, they were in long-distance for a few years as Ayushmann was struggling in Mumbai, and Tahira was in Chandigarh. Later, he got a huge break and Vicky Donor became successful.
“When I saw Vicky Donor on the big screen for the first time, it was a surreal moment for me. I was transported back in time to when he had first told me he wanted to be an actor. And I had laughed. We definitely didn’t expect Vicky Donor to do so well and never, in my wildest dreams, did I imagine that a song I had been listening to for the past 9 years (Paani Da) would become such a phenomenon!”
Ayushmann is a huge celebrity now but he always takes out time for his family. Talking about Tahira, he said,
“Tahira is more intelligent than I am, she keeps me grounded and she is so beautiful.”
“Ayushmann is a sensitive, romantic and a very caring person. He makes sure he gives me enough love and attention to keep me happy.”
Tahira is a director/producer who has also helmed a short film, Toffee, which was bankrolled by Ayushmann. The lady also stated that she wanted to direct a feature film.
Earlier, in an interview, Tahira had said,
“We have been friends before we got married. I have known him closely. I don’t have anything for him right now but if anything falls into place, I don’t mind directing him if he fits a character. Although I don’t know how that will work out… it will be a different experience for both of us.”
“Ayushmann is making these days. I am proud of him. He is on the right track. He discusses all his scripts with me and he always wanted to be part of films that are high on content.”
They are parents of two wonderful kids. After the birth of his daughter, Ayushmann had said,
“There’s a birth of a father again. Was proud to be the first one to get married in my batch of 99 of St John’s High School, Chandigarh. I’m also the youngest father. It’s a feat to be a parent in your 20s. It’s overwhelming! O, boy! It’s a baby girl! I learnt humility from my mother, chivalry from my wife, will become compassionate because of my daughter.”
Forever wala love
They met in school and are now living their happily ever after. Ayushmann said,
“It is one of my achievements that I am married to her. It is difficult to find a girl like her. She has been with me through thick and thin. She was a pillar of support during my struggling days. She is more mature than I am. I am still childish. I value her advice.”
Tahira also has only good words to say about her husband. She stated,
“As a husband, Ayush is a much better person than the guy I was dating. He is an amazing human being and I love him for his sound character- which is not just reflected in him as a husband, but also as an employee, employer, friend, son, brother, son-in-law… He makes the best companion I could ever ask for.”
We wish this couple a wonderful life ahead!
