Whenever we think of Bengali the first thing that comes to our head is Fish, Howrah Bridge, Rosogulla. And even Bollywood has portrayed Kolkata in a very exaggerated way overly friendly city where woman are wearing overly sized bindi, and where every day the native speaker is struggling with their Hindi and English accent.

We assume that there are quite a few preoccupied notions about Bengalis which are needed to be debunked and here is the list which proves that:

1. Not all have same accent

Not all Bengali’s have the same accent; even in Bengal there are many places where people have different dialects with different accent.

2. Stereotyped notion about their appearances

Not all Bengalis have big eyes or they have chubby faces , this is the very common misconception.

3. Not all Bengali loves fish

A very common notion of outsiders they think all Bengali are fond of fish but there are many who prefer butter chicken over Fish. There are many bongs who are fish haters; it’s a matter of choice.

4. Not all of them are fond of rice

There are Bengalis who like to eat rotis more than rice.

5. Roshogolla is not the only desert they all love

Roshogolla is loved by many Bengalis but they are blessed with many kinds of sweet dishes, like pantua, misti doi, mowa etc.

6. Not all Bongs have same choices

People might have the same choice but that doesn’t mean all Bengalis have the same choice there are many who prefer different likings, you can check by visiting any pub in Kolkata then you will learn that they are no less than any Delhi people.

7. Every Bengali is not from Bengal

Large number people are from from Bangladesh and many from northeast now they are termed as Bengalis.

8. Every Bengali is not die-hard  football fan

For some of them East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are life and death, but many don’t care about this very so called particular notion.

9 Every student is not a jhola chap

Quite accustomed about how outsiders mock at the every student of Jadavpur, Presidency or Calcutta University by saying jhola carrying elite. I must say they should visit these places once in their life.

10. Kolkata is much beyond Victoria Memorial or the Howrah Bridge

Not only Howrah Bridge and victoria memorial enchants people quite a few mesmerising places will enchant the eyes of people.

11. Everyone don’t have typical Bengali accent

12. Bengali does not only mean Hindus from Bengal

All Bengalis are not Hindu. Bengali is a culture based on a language people, not a religion.

13. Every Bong girl don’t only love saree

Every Bengali girl loves wearing sari, who on earth would hate wearing sari. But they can also look their best in another avtar of western look.

14. And not all Bong guys like kurta-pajama

You can find some Bengalis guys wearing kurta-pajama, but not all of them.

15. Not everyone loves literature

Not all Bengalis love poetry or writing. There are many who has their own choices and they terribly hate poetry and even loves indulging into Eminem’s rap.

17. Not all Dad’s are cool

Not all dads are cool as you see in the Bollywood movies. Some of the dad’s could be too strict.

Presumptions are good but not when you count the whole community into that.
