Recently, the Goodbye actress Rashmika Mandanna fell prey to cybercrime. Rashmika became a victim as her deepfake video went viral on social media. The video clip originally featured a British-Indian Instagrammer whose face was intentionally morphed into Rashmika’s face.

Rashmika is a well-known South Indian actress who has worked in several Tollywood films with renowned actors. The actress is also seen in Bollywood movies like Goodbye where she worked alongside superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Her upcoming Hindi movie Animal also starring Ranbir Kapoor looks promising. She is popular on social media for her charming looks.

The deepfake video of Rashmika instantly became viral on social media and many users understood and clarified that the video was morphed

Though the viral video had been doing the rounds for quite some time. Recently, it was re-shared by an X (formerly known as Twitter) user who happens to be a journalist alongside the real clip. The original video features an Instagram personality of Indian origin, Zara Patel.

In the video, a woman wearing a black unitard outfit with a plunging neckline is seen entering an elevator. However, the woman’s face has been morphed into that of Rashmika.

The journalist wrote,

“There is an urgent need for a legal and regulatory framework to deal with deepfake in India. You might have seen this viral video of actress Rashmika Mandanna on Instagram. But wait, this is a deepfake video of Zara Patel”

He added,

“From a deepfake POV, the viral video is perfect enough for ordinary social media users to fall for it. But if you watch the video carefully, you can see at (0:01) that when Rashmika (deepfake) was entering the lift, suddenly her face changes from the other girl to Rashmika”

The angry fans of the actress demanded strict action against the culprits. The deepfaked video was also criticized by her Goodbye co-star Amitabh Bachchan who reacted on the same.

After the journalist emphasized the need for a legal framework to deal with deepfakes in India. Amitabh Bachchan retweeted the post and demanded for legal action to be taken against such deepfake incidents showing his support to his co-star. The actor wrote,

yes this is a strong case for legal

However, Rashmika is yet to react to the video.
