1. Kempty Falls

The most heard name while travelling to Mussoorie is Kempty Falls which lies around 15kms from Mussoorie. At an elevation of 4,475 feet, Kempty Falls is a great place to spend a day as you can indulge in swimming in the cascading falls or go fishing in the waters. In summers, the falls are quite crowded (including parking if you choose to drive down) and it is advised to leave early to make the most of it. The falls are at two levels, while one is where the road leads (more popular and crowded), the other lies hundreds of steps below.

2. Lal Tibba

This is the highest point in Mussoorie, with an elevation of 7,464 feet and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas and surrounding valleys. Through the telescopes placed here, you can catch a glimpse of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Banderpunch and many other Himalayan ranges. It is a 5 km walk from the Picture Palace in Mussoorie and usually takes about 2-3 hours to cover. You could take the ropeway or cab if you do not want to walk.

3. The Mall

One of the most happening places in Mussoorie is its Mall Road. It is a long road that stretches from the Picture Palace at one end to the Public Library at the other. The road is enveloped by hotels, garment shops, restaurants, grocery stores, branded stores and cafes on both the sides. It stays brimming with activites and tourists walking around throughout the day and night, and makes you realise that the Mall Road never sleeps!

4. Lake Mist

If you wish to stay near the Kempty falls then this is the place to halt at, as there is a resort near the lake. Lake Mist lies 5 kms before the Kempty Falls on the Mussoorie-Kempty road. The Kempty river flows through this lake with its numerous little waterfalls. To spend more time at this splendid location, you can stay at the resort which boasts of its restaurant and boating facilities.

5. Gun Hill

The second highest point of Mussoorie, Gun Hill is located at an altitude of 6,640 feet and offers spectacular sights of the Himalayas. On a clear day, you can easily spot the snow-clad peaks of the Himalayan ranges. It is a perfect place for every one as the elders can enjoy the sights and fresh air and the kids can choose from various fun activities like games and rides. The place is filled with restaurants serving light snacks to proper meals along with tea/coffee and cold drinks.

6. Cloud’s End

Situated around 6 kms from the Library, this place marks the end of Mussoorie. It is surrounded by thick deodar forests and is home to a bungalow which was built by a British Major in 1838 and was one of the first four buildings to be ever made in Mussoorie. Come here to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding valley and hills.

7. Nag Tibba

Believed to be an abode of the Snake God (Nag Devta), this beauty lies around 57 kms from Mussoorie at an altitude of 9,915 feet. People not just come here to offer prayers to ‘Nag Devta’ but it is also known to be one of the finest trekking tracks of the region. If you trek upto the temple on top, you can see the entire Bandarpoonch ranges of the Mighty Himalayas. You have to drive for around 35kms and then start with the trek to Nag Tibba.

8. Dhanaulti

A personal favourite, it is a beautiful destination with an even more beautiful drive! It is located around 24 kms from Mussoorie and 25 kms from Chamba. Located at an altitude of 7,500 feet, it is covered in alpine forests of Deodar, Oak and Rhododendron. The main attractions are the two Eco-Parks ‘Amber’ and ‘Dhara’ which are beautifully maintained by the government.

9. Mussoorie Lake

Around 6 kms from Mussoorie on the Mussoorie-Dehradun Road lies this beautiful man-made lake, originating from a natural waterfall, which is maintained by the City Board and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority. It serves as a perfect picnic spot for the entire family due to availability of peddle boating and eateries amidst the beauty of nature and splendid views.

10. Camel’s Back Road

Indulge in a blissful experience by taking a ‘nature walk’ along the Camel’s Back Road which gets its name due to its rocky outcrop in the shape of a camel’s hump. You can start at the Library Point and walk uphill the Landhaur Market, relishing the breathtaking views on the way, away from all the worldly disturbance and pollution.

11. Company Garden

This is a man-made tourist attraction which has a large collection of flowers and plants along with artificial falls and engaging fun rides. Another great place to spend a whole day at, it has an artificial pond with boating facilities and sprawling green lawns where you can relax and soak in the sun. You can reach the garden by taking a rickshaw from the Gunn Hill Point.

12. Benog Wildlife Sanctuary

If you are a wildlife enthusiast, then this sanctuary is one place you ought to visit. It is located around 11 kms from the Library Point and is home to various wild species such as panther, leopard, deer, bear, Himalayan goats, Red Billed Bule Magpie and the White Capped Water Redstart amidst refreshing old cedar and pine trees along with many medicinal plants. It is a nature-lover’s delight!

13. Mussoorie Adventure Park

For adventure seekers, this place is heaven! 14. Library Bazaar

If you are a shopoholic, then head to the Library Bazaar. This market is a reminiscent of the colonial era and got its name from a 19th century Victorian Style Library that was built here. Shop for items like local trinkets, handicrafts, handcrafted jwelery, shawls and stoles, Chinese and Tibetan products and many others, so indugle in the lip-smacking street food here, it will make your trip enjoyable.

15. Jwala Devi Temple

To get an awesome view of the Aglar river valley, head to this temple and pay your respects to the Goddess Durga while here. The temple is situated at a height of 7,350 feet and is around 9 kms from Mussoorie. It lies at the top of Benog Tibba and cannot be accessed by a vehicle.

16. Bhatta Falls

Bhatta Falls lie on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road and around 3 kms from the village of Bhatta. Bhatta village is located roughly 7 kms from Mussoorie. The trek of 2-3 kms leads to the spectacular falls and offer a tranquil place to rejuvenate.

17. Jharipani Falls

These falls are located on the Mussoorie-Jharipani road, around 5 kms from Mussoorie Library Bus Stand. To reach the waterfall, you need to trek for about 2 kms. You will find many of Mussoorie’s well known boarding schools in this region.

18. Sir George Everest’s House

The man after whom the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest is named, Sir George Everest, was the Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843. This house contains the remains of the residential building and laboratory of Sir George Everest. The house, which is 6 kms from Gandhi Chowk and a beautiful walk from the Library Bazaar, offers spectacular views of the Doon valley, Aglar river valley and peaks of the Himalayan ranges.

19. Mossy Falls

The moss-laden rocks surrounding a stream of water gushing down from a hill make this waterfall unique and striking. It is located around 7 kms from Mussoorie on the Bala-Hisar road and is a perfect trekking trail for trekking enthusiasts. It also serves as a great picnic spot as you be around the best of nature, rejuvenated from the views and air.

20. K Dev Bhoomi Wax Museum

Not far behind on international trends, Mussoorie too has a wax museum now. The museum is located at a distance of 3 kms from the Mall and 3.5 kms from the Library Point. It is home to 26 wax statues of Indian and international celebrities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Hitler, Mother Teresa, Einstein, Swami Vivekanand, Angelina Jolie and Michael Jackson. The museum has been established recently and is great for a half day outing!

21. Happy Valley

Another option for a short yet great hike is this place which is located just a few kms from the Library end of the Mall. Happy Valley consists of the IAS Academy, Tibetan monasteries and the Municipal Garden. It is home to around 5,000 Tibetans and is lovingly known as ‘Mini Tibet’. The Happy Valley maintains its old world charm with its road side eateries serving authentic Tibetan food and shops along the road selling Tibetan/Himalayan souvenirs. The valley is also known for its panoramic view of the surrounding valley.

22. Shedup Tibetan Budhhist Temple

This temple was constructed in 1960 by the Tibetan refugees and was the first Tibetan temple to be ever built in India. The temple is open for visitors from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs. It is located on the Happy Valley road, close to the IAS Academy.

23. Bajrang Temple

One more course for the trekkers to explore, this temple lies about 15 kms from Mussoorie. It is dedicated to lord Balbhadra who was the brother of Lord Krishna. Trek all the way up and finish with astounding views of the Chakrata ranges, the Doon valley and the Jaunsar Bawar region. The trek along with the views makes for a perfect day to soak in the fresh air and scenic beauty around this region.
