However, as he approached the temple threshold with a crowbar, he heard a deafening roar rumbling like thunder. And the crowbar slipped from his hands as he was shaking in fear.

A voice in the heavens then said,

“Mandir todna hai, to karo man ghat” (translation: “If you want to break down the temple, harden your heart.”)

From that day on, the place became known as “kar-man-ghat”. Despite the passing of centuries, Lord Anjaneya, or Hanuman, still sits in the temple, blessing devotees and meditating as Dhyana Anjaneya Swamy.

The temple also has several other deities, including Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, and Lord Shiva. These deities are housed in separate shrines within the temple complex.

History of Karmanghat Hanuman Temple

This Hanuman temple has a fascinating origin story. According to legend, the temple was built in the 12th century A.D., approximately in 1143. While King Prola II of the Kakatiya dynasty was out hunting in a dense forest, he heard the chanting of Lord Rama’s name.

Surprised, he followed the sound and found a stone idol of God Hanuman, in a seated posture, emitting the voice. The king paid his respects to the deity and returned to his capital. That night, Lord Hanuman appeared in his dream and instructed him to build a temple at the site.

In later years, the temple gained even more prominence when Aurangzeb, the Mughal emperor, sent out his armies to expand the empire. However, the soldiers were unable to approach the compound wall of the temple.
