If you are a cricket fan, you must be aware of the fact that IPL 2023 came to an end on 29 May 2023. Just like the last season, 10 teams competed in the grand tournament for the winning title. The Indian Premier League started in the year 2008 and the game is still going strong. IPL winners from all the seasons from 2008 to 2023 have been quite deserving. The winning teams gave their best to be the IPL winners. The IPL winner 2023 is Chennai Super Kings (CSK), they claimed their fifth IPL title by winning it in 2023.

The Indian Premier League commenced a year after the Indian cricket team won the first edition of the World T-20 final (months after India’s 2007 T20 World Cup win). IPL is now considered the best Twenty-20 league in the world. It started 16 years ago as an ambitious project. The IPL team that won the most number of times is the Mumbai Indians. They have been the most successful IPL team as they won the tournament five times. Another team that won the title five times is the Chennai Super Kings.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expanded the competition after IPL became more popular with each passing season.

1. IPL Winner 2008 – Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals led by Shane Warne won the first season of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals proudly sits first in the IPL winners list. With experienced batsmen like Shane Watson and Graeme Smith, the team was well-balanced with an explosive batsman like Yusuf Pathan. And a tricky bowler like Sohail Tanvir. They were the driving force of the Rajasthan Royals team in the first IPL season.

In the final match against the Chennai Super Kings, Yusuf Pathan contributed in both the bowling and the batting department. Yusuf first took 3 crucial wickets and scored 56 from 39.

2. IPL Winner 2009 – Deccan Chargers

In 2009, the Indian Premier League winner was the Deccan Chargers. The team was led by Adam Gilchrist as they had some incredible batsmen in them including Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds, and young Rohit Sharma. Pragyan Ojha played a very important role in the team’s journey to winning the tournament. Adam Gilchrist stood second in the overall list of highest run-scorers in the season after Mathew Hayden. He scored a total of 495 runs in 16 matches.

3. IPL Winner 2010 – Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni finally lifted the trophy when CSK won the winning title after missing it during the inauguration. From the very beginning of the tournament, players including Suresh Raina, Albie Morkel, Mathew Hayden, Muralitharan, and MS Dhoni were the strong contenders. Throughout the tournament, Suresh Raina was absolutely brilliant and served as the backbone of the team’s batting lineup. In its final against Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians his knock of 57 not out from 35 led the team to be the IPL winners.

4. IPL Winner 2011 – Chennai Super Kings

Among the IPL winners, Chennai Super Kings become the first team to win back-to-back finals in history. The defending champions CSK held the title against the batting giants of the tournament RCB. CSK’s batting unit had the presence of Michael Hussey, who played some important innings throughout the tournament. CSK defended its title due to Hussey and Murali Vijay’s 159-run opening partnership against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

5. IPL Winner 2012 – Kolkata Knight Riders

In IPL 2012, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the final. Though KKR batsmen were left with the daunting task of chasing 190 in the final, Bisla took the responsibility and responded with a smashing inning of 89 from 48 balls. CSK’s Suresh Raina’s 73 from 38 wasn’t enough to stop KKR from snatching the title from them and becoming a part of the IPL winners list.

6. IPL Winner 2013 – Mumbai Indians

The hitman, Rohit Sharma led the team to the win of IPL 2013. This was Mumbai Indian’s first glory at the IPL. In the final of the 2013 IPL, MI defeated Chennai Super Kings. Throughout the tournament, the performance of the team was well-balanced. The consistent players of the team playing XI included Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, and Mitchell Johnson.

7. IPL Winner 2014 – Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders became the IPL winner 2014. It was the second team to win the IPL trophy more than once. In the final of the 2014 edition, Manish Pandey’s performance led KKR to chase a huge total of 199. Pandey’s score was brilliant, he scored 94 from 50. Robin Uthappa from KKR won the orange cap. He scored 660 runs in 16 innings.

8. IPL Winner 2015 – Mumbai Indians

After CSK and KKR, Mumbai Indians became the third team to win the IPL title more than once. The batting unit of the team was carried by Rohit Sharma, Simmons, Ambati Rayadu, and Kieron Pollard. Slinga Malinga handled the bowling department with his outstanding skills. Lasith Malinga took 24 wickets in the tournament.

9. IPL Winner 2016 – Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers Hyderabad team was the IPL winner 2016. They managed to win the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore by just 8 runs. David Warner as a captain led the team through the season skillfully. But in almost all the RCB matches that season, the main attraction was Virat Kohli – Ab de Villiers partnership. In the 16 innings Virat played, he scored 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries.

10. IPL Winner 2017 – Mumbai Indians

In the 2017 IPL, Mumbai Indians became the 1st team in IPL history to be IPL winners more than two times. The team first won in 2013 and the second in 2015. Mumbai Indians beat the Rising Pune Supergiants in the final with a margin of just one run. Rohit Sharma was exceptional as the captain of Mumbai Indians.

11. IPL Winner 2018 – Chennai Super Kings

After Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings became the second team to win more than two trophies in IPL. The players that drove the team were the veterans Ambati Rayadu and Shane Watson. They became the backbones of the batting unit of the team. As usual, in most of the games, Dhoni came up with the best finishes. MS Dhoni was the captain of the winning team. Among the IPL winners, CSK was the 2018 IPL winner.

12. IPL Winner 2019 – Mumbai Indians

The final of the IPL 2019 was a clash of the titans. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings met again in the finals of IPL 2019. The final match was nail-biting and went down to the last bowl. Malinga’s off-cutter didn’t let Shardul Thakur proceed who was hoping for at least one run for the super over. Hence, Mumbai Indians became the champions for the 4th time making a new record. With this victory, Mumbai Indians became the most successful team in IPL history.

13. IPL 2020 Winner – Mumbai Indians

This is the second consecutive time Mumbai Indians won the IPL title. Overall they became IPL winners for the 5th time. The final match was between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Mumbai Indians won this match by 5 wickets. MI also won Paytm Fairplay Award this year.

14. IPL 2021 Winner – Chennai Super Kings

The IPL 2021 Winner was Chennai Super Kings. The final match of IPL 2021 was between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). CSK won the match by 27 runs. In the final match which was hosted in Dubai CSK (192/3) beat KKR (165/9) by 27 runs. Chennai Super Kings lifted their 4th IPL trophy as IPL 2021 winners.

15. IPL 2022 Winner – Gujarat Titans

In Tata IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 final match by 7 wickets. The final match was played between Gujarat Titans (GT) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR). In IPL 2022, the teams for playoffs are Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gujarat Titans (GT) topped the IPL 2022 point table with 20 points and became the first team of 2022 to qualify for the playoffs. The winning team was captained by Hardik Pandya. They played 14 matches and won 10 out of them.

16. IPL 2023 Winner – Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

On 29th May 2023, the TATA IPL 2023 got over with an outstanding finale. CSK became the IPL 2023 winner. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won IPL 2023 and became the IPL 2023 winner by beating Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets. CSK claimed its fifth IPL title by winning the IPL 2023. CSK is now at par with the Mumbai Indians in terms of the number of times they won the IPL tournament. The player of the match in the IPL 2023 Final is the Kiwi opener, Devon Conway. The prize money for IPL winners is 20 crores for this year, and for the runner-up, it is 13 crores.
