The 2020 Indian Premier League has come and gone – and what a delight it was. The tournament served up plenty of splendid cricket, which was appreciated even more after a significant postponement earlier this year.

Thankfully, the domestic T20 action won’t stop there this year, as we head to Australia for the Big Bash League. There will be plenty of stars on display in the BBL who also featured in the IPL.

1. Josh Phillipe

Philippe was in tremendous form for the Sydney Sixers during the ninth edition of the BBL. His attacking shot selection and exemplary stroke play caught the attention of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was quickly snapped up by RCB and played five matches for the franchise in IPL 2020. He is back with the Sixers this BBL and one of the reasons why the Sixers are among the tournament favourites. Sites like bet365 cricket betting have the Sydney franchise priced at 6.50 to take the title again. They also have Phillipe offered at 15.0 to be the top batsman overall and 8.0 to hit the most sixes in the 2020-21 BBL season.

2. Nathan Coulter-Nile

The Perth Scorchers are blessed with the services of Coulter-Nile. He was with the Mumbai Indians recently and played an integral role in their title-winning campaign. Coulter-Nile effectively exchanged positions in the Mumbai playing XI with fellow Australian seamer James Pattinson on several occasions. Coulter-Nile’s role with the ball was especially key as all-rounder Hardik Pandya couldn’t bowl and played as a specialist batsman. The Aussie also weighed in with some handy runs down the order. The Scorchers have won the BBL three times and could do so again if Coulter-Nile backs up odds of 21.0 to be the top bowler in the tournament.

3. Marcus Stoinis

Among the all-rounders, Stoinis is among the best and it certainly showed in his string of solid performances for the Delhi Capitals earlier this year. He dug deep for some big runs at the top and in the middle of the order and had a penchant for taking key wickets when they were needed most. He was named the player of the tournament at the last BBL and is shaping up for more success this time around. The Melbourne Stars have reached three finals, but lost them all. Perhaps this time, Stoinis and company can go all the way to their maiden title.

4. Daniel Sams

Really good left-arm seamers are relatively far and few between in international and domestic cricket. When one performs particularly well, it’s quickly noticeable. Sams is a thorough example of this. He took the most wickets in the 2019-20 BBL and has since gone on to represent the Delhi franchise in the IPL. He did all of that before debuting in international cricket. But that happened recently, when he turned out for the Australians against the Indians. He will be a massively important resource for the Sixers again.

5. Chris Lynn

Lynn left the Kolkata Knight Riders for the Mumbai Indians, but didn’t get a single game in the IPL 2020. Mumbai were quite settled with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock at the top of the order. Even when Sharma was not available, Ishan Kishan played, not Lynn. The big-hitting Australian recently hit a hefty double-century off a minimal number of deliveries in a key club cricket fixture. He’ll be the captain of the Brisbane Heat this year – and one surmises the onus of the formal leadership won’t limit his primary role with the bat. Lynn has also played in the Caribbean Premier League and Pakistan Super League this year, so he is not entirely short on recent game time. Time will tell whether he is hungrier than ever with the Heat after warming the bench a lot with Mumbai.
