In a group-stage fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Dallas, newcomers USA stunned former champions Pakistan with their biggest win in the tournament. Pakistan won the tournament back in 2009 and were the finalists of the previous edition of the competition. The USA who were playing their first T20 World Cup registered a win against Pakistan via the Super Over. As a result, the USA hopped to the top of Group A with two wins.
In the match, Pakistan scored 159 for seven. USA chased and finalized on the same score, reaching 159 for 3. In the Super Over bowled by Mohammad Amir, USA amassed 18 runs, eight of which came from extras.

Following the massive beginning of their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, USA tasted their second win in a row. In their first match, they tasted a victory over Canada and now they shocked everyone by beating Pakistan to take a huge step towards qualification in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

Even if USA loses the other two matches, they will finish with two wins. If Pakistan loses to India and then beats Canada and Ireland, they too will conclude with two wins. If that’s the case, it will be the Net Run Rate (NRR) that will decide which two teams will move ahead into the Super 8s.
