Google has recently declared that its Google Pay app will no longer be available starting June 4, 2024, as they plan to discontinue it. The company has decided to simplify its payment methods with its latest activity and discontinue the app in the US. In 2022, Google Pay was replaced by Google Wallet but the Google Pay service remained operational in several countries. The standalone Google Pay app in the US will be ineffective from June 4, 2024, and all users will be smoothly transitioned to Google Wallet. Popular features like in-store tap-to-pay and payment method management will be retained in the Google Wallet.
According to a company blog post, the usage of Google Wallet is five times higher than Google Pay in the US.

Will it affect the users in India?
The Google Pay users in India and Singapore will not affected by this move as the company will continue its Google Pay service in these countries keeping in mind their specific needs. The latest announcement from the company is for the U.S. version of the standalone Google Pay app. The transition is expected to be smooth, with some popular features remaining unchanged.
After June 4, 2024, US users can view and transfer funds to their bank accounts via the Google Pay website. Google mentioned this in a blog post,
“To simplify the app experience, the U.S. version of the standalone Google Pay app will no longer be available for use starting June 4, 2024
And for the millions of people who use the Google Pay app in India and Singapore, nothing will change as we continue to build for the unique needs in those countries”
As a part of the process, Google will also remove:
- Peer-to-peer (P2P) payments
- Managing your Google Pay balance
- “find offers and deals”. U.S. users who were using “find offers and deals” in the GPay app can now move to new deals destination on Search, as per the company recommendation.
Affected users in the US will also be able to transfer their GPay balance using the Google Pay website to bank accounts even after June 4, 2024.
