Zomato often finds itself in the spotlight, and this time, it is due to a customer complaint that has sparked online discussion. A user took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to allege that the platform was charging more than the MRP for items ordered from Bikanvervala. The post gained the attention of Zomato, prompting it to respond via the comment section.
Man calls out Zomato for charging more than MRP on BIkanervala order
A man named Raajesh Ohri recently took to the social media platform X to raise a serious complaint against food delivery giant, Zomato. In his post, he expressed his frustration over being charged more than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for items he ordered from Bikanervala, a well-known multinational snack and food company.

Ohri did not hold back, he tagged Zomato, its founder Deepinder Goyal, and Zomato Care, thereby openly accusing the platform for “looting” customers through unfair pricing. He questioned the ethics of such practices and called out the platform for what he described as the “audacity to deceive people.” His post carried a bold told, asking when Zomato would stop overcharging its users.

“@deepigoyal @zomato @zomatocare Open loot by you people. You charged me more than MRP for the products ordered from Bikanervala. How come you have so much audacity to deceive people? When will this loot stop?”
To support his claim, Ohri even shared visual proof comparing the actual MRP of the products with what he was billed on the platform.

Without further ado, Zomato Care responded to the complaint giving its own justification
Without wasting any time, Zomato Care responded to Raajesh Ohri’s complaint with a measured response. They clarified that Zomato acts as an intermediary platform between customers and restaurant partners and therefore does not control the prices set by the restaurants listed on their app. In other words, the pricing is determined by the restaurant, not Zomato itself.
Addressing the issue further, Zomato Care acknowledged Ohri’s concern by noting his order ID and assured him that his feedback would be shared with the restaurant partner. They states they would request the restaurant to review the pricing.
“Hi there, Zomato, as an intermediary platform between customers and restaurant partners, does not govern the prices set by the restaurants on our platform. That being said, we have noted your order ID and will convey your feedback to the restaurant partner and ask them to look into this.”
Zomato’s response did seem professional at a glace.

On the flip side, if we talk about why after all the pricing differs, well it is because it usually account for packaging, delivery, and commission fees charged by the platform, meaning Zomato. The inflated pricing, though no illegal, of course catches the customers off guard.
