Founders are sometimes referred to be “business-oriented” since they devote the majority of their time to improving their work, workplace, and ideas. However, some couples are fortunate enough to be able to successfully manage simultaneously their personal and professional life.

While it has grown more difficult for individuals to live together in epidemic times, there are several couples on this planet who are “built for each other in every manner,” regardless of whether they are business associates or equal partners.

Here are six examples of successful couplepreneurs who have demonstrated that personal and business life can go together:

1. Vineeta Singh and Kaushik Mukherjee – SUGAR Cosmetics

SUGAR cosmetics is a global leading firm started by Vineeta Singh and Kaushik Mukherjee in 2015. The duo demonstrates that having a solid understanding not only makes for a lovely family but also a prosperous partnership. SUGAR Cosmetics’ CEO is Vineeta Singh, while the COO is Kaushik Mukherjee.

The couple met at the IIM in Ahmedabad, where they both attended and worked at investment banks before launching their own businesses. Vineeta studied from IIT Madras with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to study business at IIM Ahmedabad. At the age of 23, she became India’s first B-school graduate to turn down a “Rs 1 crore” offer of employment from an investment company and started her own HR firm.

Kaushik earned his MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and began his career as an engineer with Oracle Corporation in Hyderabad from 2004 to 2006. Sugar Cosmetics will have a network of five million cosmetics aficionados across numerous platforms by 2022, with a workforce of over 1500 people, with 75 percent of them being women. Over 10,000 retail stores in 130 cities make up the brand’s worldwide supply chain. The SUGAR cosmetics app has currently has over 1 million installations and a large social media presence.

2. Bipin Preet Singh and Upasana Taku – Mobikwik

Mobikwik, a name that offers a broad array of services comprising mobile phone-based payment technology and network wallets, was founded in 2009 by Upasana Taku and Bipin Preet Singh. Upasana, the firm’s director, and Bipin, the CEO, have been collaborating together for 12 years.

After completing her education in Surat, Upasana Taku moved on to the National Institute of Technology in Jalandhar to pursue her B.Tech in Industrial Engineering and then continued on to Stanford University in the United States to get her MS in Management Science and Engineering. Bipin has been acknowledged as one of India’s premier IT entrepreneurs on numerous occasions.

Bipin worked as a Platform Architect for Intel, Nvidia, and Freescale for 7 years before launching Mobikwik.

3. Shubhra Chadda and Vivek Prabhakar – Chumbak

What would you claim to a couple that chose to sell their house one day to establish a business providing brilliantly colored kitschy-chic items with a unique desi flavor? Shubhra Chadda and Vivek Prabhakar accomplished just that, and Chumbak, one of India’s most well-known companies, was formed. The leisure company Chumbak was founded by Shubhra Chadda and Vivek Prabhakar. Shubhra and Vivek wedded in 2005, and Chumbak was started in 2009.

Chumbak is a lifestyle company that offers a wide variety of indescribably beautiful and one-of-a-kind home furnishings and fashion accessories.

They bought a property before getting married solely to be creative in making it however they desired. Shubhra, the firm’s head of products, and Prabhakar, the company’s chief marketing officer, are both from defense family, and they’ve never had the opportunity to stay in one area for long, but Bengaluru became their permanent residence in the early 2000s. Chumbak, established in Bangalore, operates 54 retail locations throughout India and offers its products online through a variety of e-commerce platforms.

With a collaboration with global e-commerce companies Myntra and Amazon, Chumbak launched into an integrated paradigm a year ago, which has become a central element of the business, and this allows consumers to look at things digitally and visit the shop and buy things. Today, the majority of purchasing is performed on mobile devices and via apps.

4. Anand Shahani and Mehak Sagar – WedMeGood

While doing internship at GlaxoSmithKline, a health nutrition firm, in 2008, Anand Shahani and Mehak Sagar began their relationship. Later, in 2012, they wedded. The couple faced numerous challenges while arranging their wedding, including finding the correct venue, suppliers such as band-baja, and catering services. As a result, WedMeGood was founded in February 2014.

WedMeGood is a bridal website that provides a list of vendors like photographers, make-up artists, jewelry designers, and designers to assist couples in finding the best specialists. WedMeGood’s CEO is Anand, while Mehak is in charge of writing and online marketing.
Anand role of a marketing manager for Abbott Nutrition after graduating from the Xavier School of Management (XLRI) in Jamshedpur, while Mehak was employed as a risk manager for American Express after graduating from the Delhi School of Economics (DSE). When he was asked about their venture Anand told Your Story,

“We realized there was a lack of ‘wedding blogs’ in India that people could really trust and connect with. So we decided to marry the concept of a ‘wedding blog’ with a curated vendor listing that has been pre-screened and can help couples not only find the best wedding professionals for their style and budget but also give them ideas and experiences from other recently married couples.”

While Mehak said,

“We stress on ‘modern’ because our content is tailor-made for today’s generation — one which understands the difference between candid and traditional studio photography, one which wants to do something unique and different, to take just a few examples.”

5. Ghazal Alagh and Varun Alagh – MamaEarth

Ghazal Alagh, a Shark Tank India judge, and her husband Varun Alagh launched India’s first chemical-free baby care company, Mamaearth, a subsidiary of Honasa Consumer Pvt. Ltd, in August 2016. Mamaearth promises to make items that are both natural and safe for children and parents.

Ghazal Alagh is the Chief Mama and Chief Innovation Officer at Mamaearth, a direct-to-consumer (D2C) firm founded by Varun Alagh. These couples have cracked the secret on how to effectively manage life and a company jointly. According to Economic Times reports, the business had a turnover of roughly Rs 460 crore for the fiscal year ended March 2021 and is projected to conclude the existing fiscal year with at least a higher expected income.

Ghazal served as a Corporate Trainer at NIIT Limited for two years and six months and became the Chief Mama of India’s greatest beauty company, where she instructed management from various IT firms in SQL, J2ME, and Oracle. Varun served as a senior product manager at Coca-Cola in Gurgaon from 2013 to 2016, prior to founding Mamaearth.

The duo has decided to expand their business outside India, to nations such as the United Arab Emirates and Nepal, where it has gotten positive reviews, with ambitions to expand to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Godrej Consumer Goods Limited has sold BBlunt’s products and beauty operations in Mumbai to the company (GCPL).

6. Rohan and Swati Bhargava – CashKaro

Swati and Rohan Bhargava, a husband-and-wife team, founded CashKaro, a reward and discount portal. The couple began their connection as acquaintances and eventually became not only domestic partners but also business associates. Swati and Rohan launched Pouring Pounds, a compensation service in the United Kingdom, in April 2011. In 2013, the pair relocated from London to Gurgaon and launched CashKaro, a similar company concept.

Tata and Kalaari Capital are among the shareholders in CashKaro. On over 1500+ sites spanning segments, CashKaro offers exclusive coupons and cashback in addition to discounts. According to PTI reports, the site’s annualized GMV in non-sale periods was roughly $650-750 million last year, a 3.5X increase YoY. Swati Bhargava, the Co-Founder of CashKaro told PTI,

“We have scaled our performance marketing spends this year by 2X to leverage the offline to online shift in e-commerce. This year, we’ve not only seen an uptake in sales but also so much growth in the D2C space as well. In 2021 alone, we have partnered with 300+ D2C brands. We can drive more ROI for our partners compared to previous years, and that can be seen in our GMV numbers.”
