The frozen pass

There are many places that you might regret not visiting in this beautiful state. The Sela pass which in fact constitutes the back bone of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, since it connects the district of Tawang to the rest of the country. The beauty lies in the fact that the site remains covered in snow and is adjoined by the Sela Lake. Not to forget to mention that this pass and lake lie at an altitude of more than 4000 meters. The frozen pass and the breathtaking frozen lake with a beautiful view of the eastern Himalayan range tell aloud of the beauty and the charisma of the state within.

Second largest monastery in the world

A three storied building founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso, abode to more than 300 monks is the Tawang monastery. It features an 8 meter tall statue of Lord Buddha. Awesome architecture, showcasing Boddhistava paintings, a library with collection of oldest scriptures, the second largest monastery in the world, looks even more colorful and vibrant during festivities. Great, isn’t it? Do take time out to visit this pious place and take a glimpse of the simple yet powerful lives of these monks.

Waterfalls

When it comes to waterfalls, Arunachal Pradesh again shall enchant you with the beautiful falls like Nuranag falls and Bap Teng Kang falls (both falls being approximately 100mt high). These gushing waterfalls are a hotspot for tourists and locals for their pristine location and scenic beauty as well. To add to the facts, Nuranang falls became much more popular tourist destination post the shooting of a song of the Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan starrer movie “Koyla”.

Gorichen peak

Let’s touch new heights again with 22,500 feet above sea level Gorichen peak, the highest peak of Arunachal Pradesh. The people hold the belief of the peak being scared and being the protector against all evils.

Parshuram kund

The religious belief of people from both India and China bring them to the Parshuram kund. It is of popular belief that dips in the holy kund shall cleanse one of sins.

Lakes

The state is also studded with many beautiful lakes all over. The Lake of No Return is also infamously called the Bermuda triangle of India. It is said that during the First World War the aircrafts that flew above this lake, crashed into the lake and never found. There are several such stories and myths regarding the lake making it a major attraction of curious tourists.

Sangestar Tso is the most magnificent high altitude lake of Arunachal Pradesh. Interesting is the fact that, the land used to be lush pasture and used as grazing field for cattle but an earthquake in 1971 transformed this place into a beautiful lake.
Shungster Lake also called Madhuri lake post the shooting of yes, ‘Koyla’ again. This lake offers a walking track and you might be lucky to see the Buddhist monks offering prayers or meditating during off season.

People of Arunachal Pradesh

The lives of tribal people in most north eastern states make these states unique and stand out from the rest of the country. Arunachal Pradesh is known to have 26 tribes with other 100 sub-tribes. These tribes are living legends that show the world that it is not the caste but culture that matters above everything else. These tribes are richly skilled in crafts. They design their own jewelry with paintings on them. The Wencho tribes are known for tattooing norm, the Nocte tribe for betel leave cultivation, the Mishimis are fine weavers as well as calibrated farmers and so on. Several tour packages involve interaction with the tribes and participation in several different festivals that these tribesman observe with great pomp and show.

Diverse wildlife

Besides its scenic beauty and the blessed culture, Arunachal Pradesh is also endowed with a diverse wildlife. There are several wildlife reserves, to name a few: Kane Wildlife Sanctuary, Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, Pakke Tiger Reserve, Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary, Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary, Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary. Arunachal Pradesh is the home to the clouded leopard, snow leopard, leopard and tiger. Accompanying these majestic wild cats are macaques, hares and gibbons.
