Founded in 1972, Delhi Public School is the most popular and prestigious schools of India. It is a private institution run by the non-profit Delhi Public School Society with various branches all over India and internationally. 6. Founder of Delhi Public School

The founder of Delhi Public School was the late Rev James Douglas Tytler, he was also the First Principal of the school. Familiar name? His adopted son Jagdish Tytler is a Congress Leader.

7. Name changes

Initially, the school’s name was New Delhi Church High School prior to 1947. Post-independence it was renamed as Bharat High School finally followed by the Delhi Public School Society in 1949.

10. Fake Trust Controversy

The popularity of DPS made some people take undue advantage of it. A fake trust was formed under its name in Rohini, Delhi in the year 2003. However, after a few years and hearings, the Delhi High Court asked the trust to pay Rupees 10 Lakhs as compensation and discontinue the use of its name and logo.

It is believed that the Delhi Public Society was founded in the year 1949 in order to secure a new land for the school.
