Food safety has once again come under the spotlight after a shocking incident involving a Zomato order. A man named Dr. Shivaji Sharma recently took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to highlight a disturbing breach of hygiene and food security.

He had ordered a chicken sandwich from Renee’s Kitchen, a restaurant in Guwahati, via Zomato. However, what he received left him appalled — inside the sandwich, he found an insect, which he sarcastically described as an “additional source of protein.”

Dr. Sharma shared a photo of the contaminated food along with his order number (#7075250983), tagging Zomato and demanding immediate action.

His tweet read,

“Found this additional source of protein in my chicken sandwich #zomato order no #7075250983… Renee’s kitchen, Guwahati. Please address this gross food safety violation!”

He also attached photographic evidence with his tweet to further corroborate his claim.

Zomato responds to food safety complaint with a standard message

Soon after Dr. Shivaji Sharma posted about finding an insect in his chicken sandwich ordered from Renee’s Kitchen via Zomato, the complaint was noticed by Zomato Care. While the post did not go viral or catch the attention of many netizens, the food delivery platform did respond promptly.

Zomato Care reacted with a generic and polite message, stating,

“Hey Shivaji, we completely understand how upsetting this must be, and we’re taking this seriously. Please allow us some time to take this up with the restaurant and get back to you with an update.”

Though the response acknowledged the issue, it followed the usual customer service format, without providing any immediate resolution or assurance of strict action regarding the hygiene breach.
