Zomato has been making headlines lately, and not for the best reasons — especially when it comes to food mix-ups. These aren’t your usual “wrong order” kind of errors; some of them are downright horrifying. Imagine eagerly waiting for your meal, only to find cockroaches in it! That’s exactly what happened to a customer who recently shared his disturbing experience on X.

Man finds cockroaches in his Zomato order, shares shocking video on X

Food delivery platforms like Zomato and the restaurants partnered with them carry a huge responsibility — not just to serve tasty food, but to ensure it is clean, healthy, and hygienic. Customers trust these services with their meals, especially when they are tired, unwell, or simply craving something comforting. However, that trust is often broken due to shocking lapses in food safety and hygiene.

Recently, a man named Santonu Bhakta took to social media platform X and shared a disturbing incident that is bound to leave you horrified. He had ordered egg chicken fried rice and chilly chicken from a restaurant named Foodie N Moody, Kolkata via Zomato, paying Rs 458 for the meal. But what he received was nothing short of disgusting — the fried rice had cockroaches in it. Understandably shocked and disgusted, he posted a video of the meal along with a screenshot of the order.

He wrote while also tagging @zomatocare and @zomato,

“What is this? Cockroaches are coming out of the food. I ordered food today because I didn’t eat anything. This food came. What should I eat?”

He further commented on his tweet and wrote,

“Who would be responsible if I got sick or something else happened to me after eating that cockroach today?”

In another follow up he wrote,

“I don’t know anything. Please refund my money and take action against the restaurant.”

To say that this incident once again raises serious concerns about the quality checks at both the restaurant and delivery platform’s end would not be so wrong.

Zomato reacts to the tweet with its generic comment

Soon after Santonu Bhakta’s shocking post about finding cockraoches in his Zomato order was posted, the platform quickly responded with a standard, generic message,

“It’s really unfortunate to hear what you have gone through, Santonu. Rest assured, we’ll take this up with the restaurant partner and sort this out for you at the earliest.”

However, not satisfied with the vague response, Santonu replied,

“What is the solution to my problem? I am telling the truth. If I do not get a solution to my problem, I will be forced to file a case in the consumer court.”

Following this, Zomato once again replied with,

“We never intended to keep you waiting, and would like to inform you that we’re investigating your concern thoroughly. We’ll be reaching out to you soon with the best possible resolution.”

While the company’s quick replies may look promising on the surface, the sad reality is that such incidents continue to surface regularly — and often, the resolution remains unclear or incomplete for the victims involved.

Such incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter hygiene checks and stronger accountability. What are your thoughts on this? Tell us in the comments below.
