Udit Narayan’s first wife was Ranjana Jha
Udit Narayan tied the knot with a woman named Ranjana in 1984. At that time he was not a public figure and had no fame in the Indian cinema, so his marriage never made any headlines. Soon after that, to make a name for himself in the industry, Udit moved to Mumbai for better opportunities, leaving behind his wife Ranjana.
Udit Narayan married for the second time without divorcing his first wife
In Mumbai, Udit Narayan met Deepa, who was also a singer struggling in Bollywood. They soon fell in love, and Udit married Deepa in 1985 without divorcing his first wife, Ranjana. Udit and Deepa also welcomed a baby boy in 1987 and named him Aditya Narayan.

Ranjana came into the picture when she arrived at a hotel in Patna, where Udit was staying for one of his shows. Ranjana brought some reporters with her and barged into Udit Narayan’s room openly announcing their marriage. When the reporters enquired further, Ranjana revealed that she was married to the singer long back, but he cheated on her. Ranjana said,
“I have come here to seek justice. He kept me in the dark about his second marriage with Deepa, also a playback singer, for years, and now I have come to seek my rightful place.”

Ranjana also revealed to the media that Udit did not divorce her before marrying Deepa. When Udit was enquired about Ranjana’s claims, he denied them by saying she was trying to tarnish his image. “Whenever I threatened to go public about our marriage, he silenced me with the threat of committing suicide. Now I have no fears and I will take legal recourse.”
After the evidence and proof, Udit Narayan finally accepted his first marriage to Ranjana
When his first wife went to court to seek justice and showed evidence to prove her and Udit’s marriage, problems arose in Udit’s home. During the controversy, his son, Aditya Narayan, was 19 years old and went through a lot of emotional distress. After accepting Ranjana as his first wife, the singer issued a statement,
“I, Udit Narayan, son of Harekrishna Narayan Jha, have accepted Ranjana as his wife and agreed to provide for her maintenance and upkeep.”

Everyone assumed that Udit Narayan settled the matter by divorcing Ranjana and providing her with a good alimony, But Ranjana revealed that she did not accept any money from him. She also told the media that she is happy to be acknowledged by Udit Narayan. She said that she would like to remain his wife along with Deepa. Ranjana said,
“I have no complaint or grievances against the singer’s wife, Deepa Narayan, and their son, Aditya… I have got what a wife should have. I have not settled for any monetary allowance from the singer. He has agreed to keep me with him. It was a family matter, and our differences have been sorted out. He has agreed to keep me as wife along with Deepa.”
