One such recent incident is doing the rounds on the internet, where a driver asked a female customer to pay extra before arriving at the venue. When the woman refused to pay the extra amount, the Uber driver wrote a gender specific, inappropriate comment in the Uber chat.

An X user, Khozy Bharmal, took to social media to address an issue caused by an Uber driver by sharing screenshots of the chat between the driver and the female customer. He tagged Uber support and asked them to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety and dignity of women.

The user took to the social media platform X and wrote,

Please note the behaviour of your driver partner !! Hope appropriate action shall be taken

He tagged @Uber_India, @Uber_Support @Uber in the tweet.

The chat screenshots show the driver asking for Rs 20 extra to reach the location of the woman to pick her up faster. When the woman refuses to pay extra, he asks her to cancel the ride.

The woman asks the driver to cancel the ride instead, but he refuses to do so. When the woman asks him to accept the charge showing in the app, he says,

Uber responded to the post and apologised for the inconvenience caused

Uber India Support addressed the issue and wrote,

Hi there, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the canceled trip. After reviewing your account, we can confirm that no cancellation fee was charged. We understand how frustrating cancellations can be, and we’ve taken steps to address this, including penalizing drivers who cancelling the trips. Appreciate your understanding.

To this, the user replied,

It is not about the cancellation of the trip….it’s about the gender-specific remarks by your driver-partner This cannot be tolerated. PERIOD

Uber also posted a follow-up tweet, stating,

Hey there, we’re really sorry to hear about your experience. We’ve forwarded your concern to the relevant team. You will hear an update from us shortly. Appreciate your patience in this regard.
