Sara Ali Khan opens up about religious labels and shares her spiritual beliefs

The daughter of Saif Ali Khan recently attended the Times Now Summit 2025. During the conversation, she openly shared various accounts from her life. The Kedarnath actress also opened up about the public backlash she gets for her spiritual choices.

Addressing the hatred she faces for her temple visits, Sara recalled a moment from her childhood. She talked about how her mother, Amrita Singh, taught her to look beyond religious and caste divisions. Sara shared,

“I was very young, in school, and even when my parents were married and we used to immigrate together abroad, I used to always wonder… Amrita Singh, Saif Pataudi, Sara Sultana, Ibrahim Ali Khan, what is going on? Who are we? And I remember asking my mom, ‘What am I?’ And she told me, ‘You are Indian.’ And I will never forget that.”

Sara Ali Khan belongs to the Pataudi family and is the heir to the legendary Pataudi dynasty, but she is also the daughter of a Hindu mother. She grew up with a secular belief that highlights India’s identity. In her conversation, Sara explained,

“We are a secular nation, and I think that all these concepts, all these boundaries are made and manipulated by people, and I don’t adhere to them. I just don’t give it the importance that the other person maybe does.”

Sara Ali Khan accepted that trolls affect her sometimes

Despite being in the film industry, where trolls and controversies are a part of the journey, the actress is used to occasional trolling. But Sara admitted that those criticisms get to her sometimes. She shared that she has now learned how to tune them out. Sara also spoke about her trip to Kedarnath, emphasizing her personal spirituality. She explained,

“My personal trip to Kedarnath, with all due respect to anybody who likes it, who hates it—it’s not about any of you. It’s about me. And I feel comfortable there, I feel peaceful there, I feel happy there.”

On the work front, Sara Ali Khan has several projects lined up. She was recently spotted in the patriotic drama Ae Watan Mere Watan, based on freedom fighter Usha Mehta.
