Though it serves as a source of entertainment, there have been several controversies related to the IPL franchise, like a dispute between the owners of the Punjab Kings, who became the runners-up this season.
Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and businessman Ness Wadia, co-owners of the IPL team Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab), were once romantically involved, and it led to a joint business venture in 2008 when they acquired the IPL franchise.

According to reports, the issue was related to the company’s board meeting. This is not the first time that a dispute between the co-owners of Punjab Kings has reached the public eye.
Earlier, there was a dispute between Preity and Ness Wadia that reached the court as well. The two were a couple once, but certain differences between them gave rise to hatred, so much so that the matter reached the court.

Allegedly, Preity and Ness Wadia were interested in sports. So, in 2008, they bought the IPL team Kings XI Punjab together. Before becoming business partners, their love story started in 2005. Preity Zinta confirmed her relationship with Ness Wadia publicly in 2005.
The couple was seen together at Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding, which led to speculations about their relationship status. Ness Wadia, Wadia Group heir, and Preity Zinta were seen together on many occasions following that.

Becoming business partners in IPL, the dynamics of their relationship changed
In 2014, Ness Wadia attended a match between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium with his mother and nephew. Ness Wadia, reportedly, failed to acquire seats in the VIP box for arriving late.

Ness was asked to wait for 10-15 minutes. When he saw Preity Zinta in the first row of the VIP box, he started debating with Preity for a seat there. The bickering escalated so much that both of them were seen moving out of the VIP box to the corporate office.
Though no one knows what happened in the room. On the night of June 13, 2014, Preity Zinta filed a case against Ness Wadia at the Marine Drive Police Station. Priety accused Ness Wadia of molesting, abusing, and threatening her.
She stated to the police that Ness Wadia allegedly threw a burning cigarette on her face and kept her locked in the room for hours.
After this incident, the relationship between Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta worsened, and both were seen avoiding each other thereafter. Both of them refrained from speaking openly about the breakup, and they went separate ways in their personal lives.
Ness Wadia is the son of Nussi Wadia, the owner of Wadia Group Company. Ness is the director of Britannia Industry, one of the industries of his Wadia Group Companies.
Despite the legal battle, the Bombay High Court eventually suppressed the case in 2018. Allegedly, both parties agreed to settle the case amicably. In 2016, Preity Zinta married American businessman Gene Goodenough and has since steered away from the controversy.
