The attack happened at Baisaran valley, a popular tourist spot in Kashmir where people usually go to relax, enjoy nature, and find peace. Investigations have revealed that the terror group responsible for this attack is Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a UN-designated terrorist organization that operates from Islamabad, Pakistan. While Pakistan has officially denied any involvement, the world knows that such denials have become a pattern. Pakistan’s history of sheltering and supporting terrorist groups is no secret. India, not willing to tolerate this any further, has taken strict diplomatic actions against Pakistan. One major step includes the suspension of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, a move that could have serious consequences for Pakistan’s already struggling economy.
Amid these grave tensions, what has surprised everyone is the reaction of Pakistani netizens. Many of them have taken to social media to roast their own country. Their self-deprecating memes, filled with dark humor and sarcasm, have gone viral and caught the attention of people even across the border.

About the Indus water treaty of 1960
The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan, is one of the world’s most successful water-sharing agreements. While it was of course not an easy task it came into effect with the mediation of the World Bank. The treaty gave Pakistan control over three western rivers which includes, the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab. Meanwhile, India got control over the eastern rivers which includes, Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej.

For decades, even during wars and conflicts, both countries respected the treaty. However, this time, India has decided to suspend the treaty as a strong diplomatic move against Pakistan. This step is not just about water, it is a message. India wants Pakistan to take strict action against terrorism and to stop sheltering terrorists who create unrest, especially in regions like Kashmir.
For a long time, Kashmir has remained a vulnerable region, caught in the grip of political conflicts and violence. Its people have borne immense hardships over the decades. The recent attack in Pahalgam has been horrific and tragic for the direct victims and their families. But the pain is shared by the local Kashmiri people as well. Many of them depend heavily on tourism for their livelihood .
Incidents like these not only bring sorrow but also shatter the fragile hope of economic stability for the locals who want nothing more than to live peacefully and welcome visitors with warmth. We can only hope that peace returns and prevails in Kashmir soon, allowing its people to heal, fully.
