The Ambanis are one of the richest families in the world, with a lifestyle that reflects unmatched luxury and innovation. Naturally, their home named Antilia is just as iconic and widely known. But here’s something surprising: this 27-storey marvel doesn’t use a traditional air conditioning system. Instead, it’s equipped with a unique air cooling technology that keeps the temperature pleasant throughout.

Ambani’s home, Antilia, does not have an air conditioners

In a world where central air conditioning is considered a basic luxury, Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia takes innovation several steps further. Despite being one of the most expensive homes ever built, Antilia surprisingly doesn’t have a traditional air conditioning system. While this may sound strange for a 27-story residence in Mumbai’s humid climate, the technology used in the Ambani home is far more advanced and discreet than the conventional cooling units found in most buildings.

The house uses a special centralized air-cooling system that is hidden from plain view. Unlike regular air conditioners that require bulky outdoor compressor units, this system integrates climate control in a way that doesn’t interfere with the architectural elegance of the mansion. It’s designed to maintain the perfect temperature across all floors of the skyscraper without visible AC grills or units.

A cooling system that does not work manually but on its own

What sets Antilia’s cooling system apart is not just the absence of traditional air conditioners, but the fact that its temperature cannot be controlled manually. In most homes, one can simply adjust a thermostat to their liking—but not in the Ambani residence. Instead, the temperature inside Antilia is automatically regulated by a smart system that considers various natural elements within the house.

From the delicate marble interiors to the fresh flowers and plants that adorn the space, everything in Antilia plays a role in determining the internal climate. The system senses the needs of these materials and living elements, adjusting the temperature accordingly to preserve their quality and elegance.

The family man actress and model once shared her chilly experience at Antilia

Actress and model Shreya Dhanwanthary, best known for her role in The Family Man, once shared her firsthand experience with the unique cooling system inside Mukesh Ambani’s iconic residence, Antilia.

During her visit to the Ambani residence for a fashion event hosted by designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, she experienced the mansion’s consistently cool temperature.

When she requested a temperature increase, a floor manager explained that the climate is regulated to preserve the integrity of the marble and the freshness of the flowers, and thus cannot be altered manually.

In her words,

“To put it gently, I wasn’t dressed very well. They have floor managers, so we went up to the floor manager and asked, ‘Can we please raise the temperature a little?’ This is what she says: ‘Ma’am, we are very sorry, but the flowers and the marble need the temperature to be a certain number.’ And I am like, ‘Oh, okay then,’ and I walk back. This doesn’t bother me in the sense that I find it fascinating when I meet people who say and do things and live a certain way that I can’t imagine.”

Antilia, built by global firms Perkins & Will and Leighton Asia, is known for many things for example its 600 staff members, its three helipads, and its multi-level garage.

But perhaps one of its most fascinating features is something you can’t even see: a cooling system so futuristic that it eliminates the need for standard air conditioning.
