1. Veer Zaara– 2004
Yash Chopra was keen on casting Kajol opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the trans-border love story. Kajol being Kajol, turned down the role and it fell into the lap of Preity Zinta. The rest is history.
2. Dil Toh Pagal Hai– 1997
Now here I see a major FOMO happening for Kajol. The actress was approached by Yash Chopra to play Karisma’s role in the film. She reportedly didn’t like the part and turned it down. Karisma Kapoor later won the National Award for her role.
3. Mohabbatein– 2000
Being like besides Shah Rukh Khan as his love interest, Kajol was the first choice to play his dead girlfriend in the film. She rejected the role, the reasons being unknown to everyone. The film became a blockbuster.

4. 3 Idiots– 2009
Kajol was the first choice of Rajkumar Hirani to play the role of Priya (Virus’ daughter) in 3 Idiots. Thinking that she wouldn’t have much to do in the film being protagonist’s girlfriend, she turned down the offer. Well, she wasn’t entirely wrong, I suppose?
5. Shakti: The Power– 2002
Kajol was offered Karisma Kapoor’s role in Shakti: The Power in which the character had to essay a dutiful mother sworn to protect her son. There were rumours that Ajay Devgn didn’t approve of working again with SRK which may have led to the rejection.

This superhit romantic movie having Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji’s role was initially offered to Kajol. She had to play an upper-class woman falling in love with a middle-class man. Fans wonder why Kajol rejected such a meaty role in Chalte Chalte.

7. Dil Se– 1998
The list is wrong where Kajol regrets her choices. The Mani Ratnam film is a cinematic wonder and even to this day it is touted as one of the best films to be made on such a sensitive issue. The role of Meghna went to Manisha Koirala who did absolute justice to her part.

8. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna– 2006
It turns out that the majority of films rejected by Kajol were Shah Rukh Khan starrer. Well, the on-screen couple’s exceptional popularity might be the reason behind it. In the Karan Johar directorial, Kajol was offered the role played by Rani Mukerji. The role was rejected presumably due to Ajay Devgn’s disapproval.
9. Khamoshi: The Musical– 1996
Kajol’s career would have been a tad different now if she hadn’t rejected such great movies. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali film was initially offered to Kajol opposite Salman Khan. She turned it down and it went to Manisha Koirala.
