Mohammed Shami is undeniably one of the most celebrated fast bowlers in the Indian cricket team, known for his fiery pace and match-winning spells. However, despite his remarkable success on the field, his personal life has seen several turbulent phases. In 2018, his wife Hasin Jahan accused him of domestic violence and dowry harassment, leading to a prolonged legal battle. Recently, the Calcutta High Court ruled in her favour, ordering Shami to pay Rs 4 lakh per month as maintenance. The judgment has once again brought his personal struggles into the public eye.
Calcutta HC orders cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay a total of Rs 4 lakh monthly to estranged wife and daughter
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, known for his impressive bowling spells on the field, has been entangled in a long-standing legal battle with his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan. The dispute, which began in 2018 when Hasin accused Shami of domestic violence, dowry harassment and adultery, has now reached a major turning point. On July 1, 2025, the Calcutta High Court ruled in favor of Hasin Jahan, directing the cricketer to provide monthly financial support to both his wife and daughter.

The order, passed by a bench that included Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, stated that Mohammed Shami must pay Rs 1.5 lakh per month to his wife, Hasin, and Rs 2.5 lakh per month to their daughter, Aaira Shami — totaling Rs 4 lakh per month.
“In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs. 1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs. 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners…”
It is interesting to note that this judgment overturned an earlier decision by the District Sessions Court, marking a significant legal win for Hasin Jahan.
After making this decision the court emphasized that this amount is fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both. Additionally, the court clarified that Shami is free to contribute more toward his daughter’s education or other personal expenses, over and above the mandated amount. This additional contribution is of course going to be on his free will.
District Sessions Court had earlier ordered Rs 1.3 Lakh monthly maintenance to Hasin Jahan and daughter
Before the case reached the Calcutta High Court, the legal proceedings between Mohammed Shami and his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, were ongoing in the district sessions court. In 2023, the sessions court had passed an order directing Shami to pay Rs 50,000 per month to Hasin Jahan and Rs 80,000 to their daughter, Aaira Shami — a combined total of Rs 1.3 lakh per month. This amount, however, did not satisfy Hasin, who believed it was insufficient to maintain the standard of living for herself and her daughter.

Unhappy with the decision, Hasin Jahan approached the Calcutta High Court to seek a revision of the ruling. It’s worth noting that her original demand before the court was much higher — Rs 7 lakh per month for herself and Rs 3 lakh for her daughter. Following her appeal, the Calcutta High Court revisited the matter and significantly revised the maintenance amount in her favour, increasing it to Rs 4 lakh per month.
A troubled turn in Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan’s marriage which led to ugly separation
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan’s marriage, which once seemed like a happy and stable relationship, eventually turned out to be ugly. Interestingly, before marrying the Indian pacer in 2014, Hasin Jahan had worked as a model and was also a cheerleader for the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The couple welcomed their daughter, Aaira Shami, in 2015, and for a while, everything appeared picture-perfect. However, the facade soon crumbled when, in 2018, Hasin publicly accused Shami of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and adultery. To say that all these allegations that shocked the nation and cricket fans alike would be a sheer understatement.
The accusations triggered a storm of media coverage and led to an intense legal battle between the two. The situation grew even more complex for Shami, as his central contract with the BCCI was temporarily put on hold amid the controversy, affecting his cricketing career. Their personal conflict has now culminated in a court-ordered financial settlement, but it also reflects the deeply fractured bond that once existed between the two.
