In a concerning case of food delivery negligence, a customer who ordered vegetarian fried rice from food delivery platform Zomato reportedly received chicken fried rice instead. This sparked outrage over dietary insensitivity and poor customer support. This is not the first time that a customer has complained of receiving chicken after ordering a veg dish.
Taking to social media, the user named Nitesh Patil, expressed his frustration
The user tagged @zomato, @zomatocare, @jagograhakjago, @deepigoyal, @ZomatoUAE, @ZomatoHyperpure, and @ZomatoUK and shared pictures and videos that display the presence of chicken in the order received. Nitesh posted an image of his order summary and invoice.

The user’s attempts to reach Zomato support were allegedly dismissed, intensifying dissatisfaction with the company’s grievance redressal mechanisms. He even wrote that he will post a video on social media and report the issue to the consumer forum.
He went on,
This so #hurtfull and #traumatizing for people who do not eat #non-vegetarian

Zomato responded to the customer with a statement
Zomato replied to the user and assured him that they will come up with a solution soon. Zomato Cares wrote,
Hi Nitesh, this is extremely upsetting for us as we deeply respect all dietary preferences. We’ve noted your order ID and will take this up with the restaurant partner and resolve it as quickly as possible.

He complained of getting no response or solution from Zomato, he wrote,

To this, Zomato responded,
Hi Nitesh, we understand the wait is frustrating. We’re currently looking into this internally. Please give us a little time to get back to you.

It seems that Nitesh is not happy with the reasoning of the company
He continued to bash them for not accepting their mistake and providing him with a satisfactory solution. He tweeted,
@deepigoyal @zomato @ZomatoUAE @ZomatoUK @ZomatoHyperpure
The #denial mode! #Zomato claims that the #chicken pieces and egg is actually something called as Manchurian and it is the restaurants ‘POV’ but not #Zomatoindia ‘POV’.— Nitesh Patil (@niteszz) May 9, 2025

This is very a classic example where #companies like #Zomato and other #fooddelivery app focus on #quantity and #volume of #sales rather than #Quality . They completely #disregard their #Customers and their #experience .— Nitesh Patil (@niteszz) May 9, 2025
The incident raises serious concerns for those who do not consume non-veg food items and have dietary restrictions. Some customers also have food restrictions due to religious beliefs or ethical practices that restrict meat consumption. This event adds to a growing list of complaints underlining lapses in food labeling, quality checks, and customer service.
This incident also reignites the debate around how these platforms should handle mistakes promptly, especially when it comes to sensitive dietary preferences.
