Indian trains are frequently regarded as the lifeline of the country, ferrying millions of people daily over long distances. From early morning commuters to long-distance tourists, every ride has its own experience. When individuals board trains, the diversity of the crowd frequently makes rail travel unpredictable. While some of them are ordinary, like the tea merchants, snackers, or toys that wander the aisles, others are so oddball that they make commuters laugh.

Most tourists are accustomed to being the target of street entertainers or beggars. While this is mostly harmless, it can become extremely unsettling for others, especially when safety concerns are raised. These occurrences occasionally become the focus of public discussion, which sparks discussions about passenger safety and the accountability of railway officials. One such instance made headlines recently when a guy was seen asking passengers for money while carrying a snake. Now the railways have responded to the incident.

The incident was filmed on the Ahmedabad Sabarmati Express. The viral video shows the person parading the reptile, which is likely a non-venomous species, such as a rat snake. However, what is most shocking is that he was doing this just inches from riders, causing anxiety and unease. He also observed receiving money from a number of passengers.

Deepak Raghuvanshi, named X user, uploaded this video on social media with a caption saying,

Meanwhile, this is not the first time such a kind of incident has happened. In 2023, four snake charmers caused havoc among passengers by releasing their reptiles in a compartment of the Chambal Express in Uttar Pradesh. Following a heated argument on Saturday night, they attempted to frighten the passengers after a performance because they were unhappy with their profits. Passengers rushed to board the upper berths, causing commotion in the unreserved compartment for the next half hour.

Another 2024 incident involved a Kerala travel influencer who posted a startling story of his experience traveling to North India on a general coach of a passenger train, when a man allegedly brandished an Indian cobra to frighten and demand money from passengers. His video also went viral on social media.

However, incidents like this show that it is unrealistic to expect security on Indian trains. In addition to not preventing such chaos-instigators from entering, officials never made an attempt to keep trains safe.
