E-commerce apps like Blinkit have made shopping easier, but often, the quality gets compromised. Recently, an Instagram influencer shared a video showing rotten eggs he received through an online order. When he cracked them open, a greyish-black liquid oozed out. The video has gone viral, raising concerns about the safety of food items delivered online.

In a now-viral video, he shared his experience after receiving an order from Blinkit, which included a tray of eggs. As soon as he opened the package, he noticed a slightly foul smell that made him uneasy. Curious and cautious, he decided to crack open a few eggs, only to discover a greyish-black liquid oozing out, confirming his worst fears.
In the video, he not only shows the already-broken eggs in a bowl but also cracks open more on camera to reveal similar discoloured and rotten contents. He explained how if someone had boiled the eggs instead of checking them raw, they may not have even realised that the eggs were spoiled until much later.
Tagging Blinkit in his post with the caption “Rotten eggs from Blinkit,” he sparked an online conversation around food safety and the need for better quality checks by delivery platforms.

As many users tagged Blinkit, they reached out to Sureng and asked for his order ID to look into the matter
The user shared Blinkit’s response in the comment section and gave his point of view in an elaborate comment.
The user expressed his frustration with a poor-quality grocery delivery experience from Blinkit. The customer highlighted that many others reported similar issues, suggesting a systemic problem. He emphasized that it’s not just about convenience.

He shared that the customers rely on such services due to urgent personal circumstances (like having a sick person at home). Though the user received a refund, he still argues the real issue is a lack of quality control and urges the company to ensure reliable and safe delivery, especially for essentials like eggs.
Here is what he said,
So many of you tagged @letsblinkit that they actually reached out to me directly via inbox yesterday. Here’s what they said:
“Hi Sureng, we’re truly sorry to hear about your experience. Ensuring product quality is a top priority for us, and we take concerns like this very seriously. Please share your order ID via DM so we can investigate this on priority. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. ~mg”
But here’s the bigger picture — through your comments, I’ve realized I’m not alone. At least 20% of the people in the comment section have reported facing the same issue. That clearly points to a larger problem.
This isn’t just about whether I can walk downstairs and buy eggs. The reality is that there’s a sick person at home, and sometimes I literally cannot leave the house. In urgent situations like that, we rely on delivery services with the trust that they’ll get us what we need — quickly and safely.
Yes, I got a refund after complaining. But that’s not a solution. It’s just damage control. The real issue is quality control. When a major company is delivering groceries, especially essentials like eggs, there needs to be a proper quality check before dispatch. And if third-party vendors are involved, the vendor’s manager or owner should be held accountable to ensure the product meets basic standards.
We’re not just paying for speed — we’re paying for reliability, safety, and trust
Here is how netizens reacted to the rotten egg video
The video has quickly gained traction, amassing over 1.9 million views, 18.1K likes, and more than 2,785 comments so far. Despite the growing attention and public concern, Blinkit has remained silent and has yet to issue any official response or clarification regarding the incident. This lack of acknowledgment has further fuelled frustration among users who expected the brand to take accountability or at least address the matter publicly.
In the comment section, a large number of netizens echoed similar experiences, revealing that receiving spoiled or poor-quality eggs and vegetables through grocery apps is not uncommon. While some targeted Blinkit, others shared that E-commerce platforms like Zepto and Instamart have also failed to maintain food quality in their deliveries.
Many users expressed a strong shift in preference toward local markets, where the chances of getting fresh produce are higher and the buyer can physically check items before purchase. The viral video has clearly sparked a larger debate about the reliability and trustworthiness of e-commerce platforms when it comes to fresh food delivery.
