Having good handwriting seemed like a boon in childhood. In childhood, every child tries to improve their handwriting, thinking that the teacher may never scold them for having bad handwriting. Some even get scolded. Children in these situations frequently feel even smaller, as though no one is there to defend them. The house becomes an extension of the same judgment, with parents also asking for good handwriting. It can negatively impact the child’s self-confidence and even their overall academic performance.
Recently, a handwriting-related tale has gone viral, but it’s special in its own right since the parent supported his child after the teacher reprimanded him for having poor handwriting. So, let’s find out what happened:

Father defended his child after the teacher scolded him for his bad handwriting
Mihir Kalbelkar, an X user, posted a page from his old school notebook. It contained his teacher’s criticism of his poor handwriting and a request that he write better. Even his parents were instructed to sign the notebook by the teacher. However, rather than reprimanding his son, Mihir’s father drafted a note in which he accepted the criticism but emphasized to the instructor that his son was trying and that he needed support rather than constant criticism. The note read:

I think his handwriting is improving a lot when compared to what it was last year. He has been sincerely trying to improve his writing. Even from the above passage it can be seen that the letters have uniform height and slant. We should encourage a child if he is making an honest attempt in improving.
Commenting on his father’s note, Mihir wrote on X:
My dad not letting my teacher talk shit about my handwriting>>>>>

When I was in 1st grade, our teacher gave us a crazy homework assignment: we had to write the numbers from 1 to 100, and then in reverse from 100 to 1, *three times*! My dad signed the notebook, informing the teacher that I wouldn’t be doing this homework.

Did the cursive hit the teacher? Trust me ; yours is better than mine (cursive) but I never got scolded! My friends complained- maybe because I got better marks, the reply was – my handwriting was understandable 🙂

I don’t get the writing scolding and giving less grade for bad writing. I was always the victim in my school days 5-8 marks was needlessly deducted per 100.

Ultimately, this viral tale reminds us of something very crucial. Kids already receive enough pressure in school, and if the same pressure is delivered by the house, they become isolated and disappointed. But when parents decide to stand behind their children rather than rebuking them, it makes a huge difference. Mihir’s dad demonstrated that even little words of encouragement can instill self-assurance in a kid and make him feel important. That is why there are so many people who enjoyed this story online. It illustrates how the support of a parent can shift the child’s perception of himself and what he can do.
