Donald Trump’s Lunch With Asim Munir At The White House Sparks Meme Fest On The Internet

US President Donald Trump’s recent lunch with Field Marshal Asim Munir became meme material in India as people linked it to Bollywood scenes.

In an era of social media, every small event can spark a meme fest. Whether it’s a serious incident like the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case or a normal viral moment, netizens today are turning everything into a meme canvas. Similarly, US President Donald Trump’s recent lunch with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir, which seems to be a typical diplomatic affair, also became meme material in India.

While the White House says that they had lunch because Munir recommended Trump’s name for the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping a possible nuclear war between India and Pakistan, the Internet says otherwise. Another reason why this happened is that there is tension currently going on between Iran and Israel. Many think that Pakistan is supporting Iran; however, some experts say that Pakistan is quietly helping the US to advance its and Israel’s operations in Iran. The cocktail of many issues sparks a meme fest on social media, and the target is Pakistan’s diplomacy and global image.

Netizens equate Munir’s lunch with Bollywood scenes

Another meme compared Munir’s lunch to a viral scene from the movie 3 Idiots, in which the lead characters walked around with plates full of food at a wedding they were not invited to.

Another meme compares Donald Trump with Amrish Puri’s character from the movie Rishtey. Amrish had an iconic scene in the movie alongside Anil Kapoor. And that scene is also about a lavish lunch!

What happened is that when Anil Kapoor’s character went to have lunch with Amrish Puri, he insulted him most drastically while also highlighting Puri’s wealth. People are quick to equate this scene with the White House, in which Donald Trump is showing Asim Munir his place.

In another widely shared meme, netizens equate Munir with Sadashiv Amrapurkar’s scene from the 1997 movie Ishq. In the scene, Amrapurkar’s character says, “I had to scrub and scrub while bathing; only then did the stench of poverty leave my body,” while seated at an extravagantly furnished dinner table.

To illustrate how Munir might act in the White House, internet users quoted Rajpal Yadav’s scene from De Dana Dan in which he is frantically eating.

What actually happened in the meeting?

Amid a flood of memes, let’s talk about what actually happened in the meeting. Top diplomatic sources in Washington claim that the meeting was anything but ceremonial. Trump made a number of bold proposals and broad demands meant to shift the balance of power in the area.

According to News18 India, President Trump has requested Pakistan’s unwavering military and strategic support as tensions in the Middle East rise due to mounting concerns about a full-scale battle between Iran and Israel. Trump has offered Pakistan substantial financial assistance in exchange for previously unheard-of access to US defense technologies, such as fifth-generation stealth jets and sophisticated missile systems. He also hinted at a larger US-Pakistan counterterrorism alliance by extending the possibility of new economic and security partnerships.

President Trump’s main takeaway from the discussions was clear: avoid Russia and China. Trump allegedly asked Munir to re-join the US-led security framework and “distance Pakistan from Eastern blocs,” including BRICS. Trump reiterated his willingness to personally mediate disputes between India and Pakistan on a number of controversial topics, such as the Indus Waters Treaty, cross-border terrorism, and Kashmir.

In the midst of all of this diplomatic and online activity, Trump spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone on Tuesday. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that Trump had asked Modi to stop briefly in the US while returning from Canada. However, PM Modi turned down the invitation, stating that he had “pre-scheduled engagements.”
