India is renowned for being a society that worships women as goddesses. However, looking at today’s world, we can easily conclude that it’s just bookish things to say. Every day, every minute, some kind of crime takes place against women in India. Forget about public places, women are not even safe in their homes. The recent gruesome murder of young tennis player Radhika Yadav also tells the same story.
Her father murdered her, and theories around why he killed her go around all over social media. However, one of the most absurd theories that goes around is that she was killed because she was in love in love with a Muslim guy. Some sections of the media even proclaimed that she was killed because of ‘Love Jihad,’ an alleged conspiracy where Muslim men lure Hindu women for religious conversion through marriage. But is there any substance in this theory? So, let’s get to know how this theory arose and what the reality behind it is.

From where did this Love Jihad theory arise in Radhika Yadav’s murder case?
Radhika Yadav’s father, Deepak Yadav, had admitted to the crime. He stated that he was tired of the kind of insults and comments he had to endure because he was dependent on his daughter’s wealth. However, reports also stated that she was killed because she liked making and uploading music videos on social media.

Taking the entire issue in another direction, one of her neighbours gave the ‘Love Jihad’ angle to the whole case. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, one of her neighbors drew attention to another person in Radhika’s life, her co-star Inamul Haq.

Reportedly, Radhika made many videos with him and uploaded those videos on her social media handles. While making videos, Radhika and Inamul fell for each other and wanted to marry each other. However, Radhika’s family, especially her father, is against their inter-religious marriage.

Restless with the constant target, Inamul broke his silence now. Speaking to ANI, Inamul Haq addressed all of the rumors regarding his role in Radhika Yadav’s murder case. About their first meeting, Inamul Haq revealed that he first learned that Radhika Yadav liked acting when they were filming together at a tennis court. After this, they never contacted each other. Inamul said,
I met her (Radhika) for the first time in the Tennis Premier League, which was held in Delhi. After that, I met her in a music video. She was an actor to me. I have worked with many actresses… She just came for the shooting of the music video, and then she left… We just gave her a good luck amount. The production of the video was unpaid. After that, we never contacted.
Furthermore, Inamul claimed that he could not even sleep because he saw people presuming there was a love jihad angle. He said,

Inamul also talked about fake rumors that were swirling on social media regarding his relationship with Radhika. Speaking about this, he said,
I did not have any kind of friendship or relationship with Radhika.
According to Inamul Haq, Radhika brought her mother along to the photo shoot and even revealed that her father liked the song they shot together.

What does the police have to say about this Hindu-Muslim angle?
Regarding the murder of tennis player Radhika Yadav, the Gurugram police stated on Sunday that they were not looking for statements from friends or those who shared accusations and tributes on social media. They described the case as “open and shut” and stated that a charge sheet was being filed based on solid forensic and testimonial evidence.
With just 69 followers and a private Instagram account, Radhika Yadav did not appear to be a social media influencer by traditional measures. According to the police, there is no clear link between her social media activity and the crime’s motivation.
Speaking about this, Gurugram Police public relations officer Sandeep Kumar said,
The accused has confessed to the crime. These video statements are not part of the investigation and won’t be included in the charge sheet.
He added,

During questioning, we specifically asked Deepak Yadav to name the people who instigated him against his daughter, but he could not name even a single person. We have questioned more than 20 individuals from Wazirabad village, including those close to the family, and no one admitted to having any such conversation.
