In today’s fast-paced world, dating apps have emerged as one of the most convenient ways to find love or simply meet someone new. With just a few swipes, people hope to spark real connections. But reality doesn’t always match expectations. Sometimes, the dream date turns into a nightmare, like in the case of a Delhi-based man who went on a date and was shocked to receive a ₹12,000 bill.

For a Delhi-based man, right-swipe on a dating went terribly wrong as he was almost scammed with Rs 12,000 bill

Dating apps have transformed modern relationships, offering a fast, convenient way to meet new people. But beneath the surface of swipes and small talk, a darker reality is emerging which is scamming people and exploiting trust thereby leaving victims emotionally and financially drained. Despite the growing number of such cases, many people remain unaware of just how elaborate and manipulative these schemes can be.

The recent experience of a Delhi-based man paints a clear picture of this threat. What started as a seemingly harmless date arranged via a dating app quickly spiraled into a calculated con. The woman, who called herself Bhumi, invited him to Locus Cafe in East of Kailash and began ordering Jägerbombs priced at Rs 1,200 each.

The man, who shared that he only had Rs 3,000 to spend, was shocked when the final bill reached Rs 11,958. When he requested the bill be split, Bhumi conveniently claimed she had only Rs 100 on her. She soon stormed out of the cafe, and the alleged owner, Varsha, stepped in, threatening him with police action and an extra Rs 10,000 fine if he didn’t settle the amount.

Realizing he was being cornered, the man called a friend for help and eventually managed to negotiate the bill down to Rs 2,500. This abrupt and drastic “settlement” not only exposed the cafe’s aggressive tactics but also revealed the entire incident including the girl as a well-planned scam.
