In the last few years, the internet and smartphones have changed the way we live. And if they have had the most impact on anything, it is on our food and eating habits. Fifteen years ago in India, if you had told anyone that food could be delivered to your home with just one phone call, people would have laughed at you, but today, this is the truth. Platforms like Zomato and Swiggy bloomed everywhere.
However, despite its expansion, the food delivery sector still faces several challenges. The most frequent complaint about these businesses is that they handle meal delivery poorly. Food delivery delays and rotten food deliveries were common occurrences. Recently, a customer was shocked to find out that one piece was missing from the pizza he ordered on Zomato. Now, Zomato has also reacted to the same.

Customer shocked to receive a pizza with one slice missing
Recently, an Ahmedabad-based customer named Akshay ordered a pizza from Zomato. However, what happened next is beyond bizarre. When he received their pizza, he saw that one slice was missing from the box. Angry at the situation, he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain about what happened to him. The customer mentioned that it was the first time they ordered something from Zomato. He also mentioned that he ordered food from Poptos, the Bodakdev branch in Ahmedabad. In his post, he wrote,

The customer alleged that Zomato says his incident is not credible
Furthermore, a customer shared a screenshot of a customer care chat that happened between them and a Zomato customer care representative. In the chat, the representative mentioned that Akshay’s claim is ‘unverifiable,’ and they confirmed with the restaurant that it’s not at all possible. Along with the screenshot, he wrote,

So, the missing item is clearly the fault of the restaurant this feels like fraud. Very disappointing experience. I don’t think I’ll ever use Zomato again. Now I’m confused whether to leave a review or just skip the meal…cause khana to thanda ho gya ……review dalte dalte…

In another tweet, Akshay mentioned how he lost trust in Zomato after the incident. He wrote,
It’s not just about one missing item or the food taste it’s about money and service. And that’s exactly what @zomato failed to deliver. Even the service center didn’t help. Honestly, I’ve lost trust ,can’t expect anything from Zomato now

How did Zomato react to the incident?
On the above-mentioned posts, Zomato quickly reacted, asking for more details about his order. The company wrote,

Meanwhile, this is not the first time such kinds of incidents have happened with Zomato users. Earlier this year, in May 2025, the customer was shocked to find out that she received chicken momos instead of what she ordered, i.e., paneer momos. She said that this error is an insult to her religious convictions because she is a strict vegetarian in her post. She also insisted that Zomato issue a formal apology and provide full compensation. After this, Zomato expressed regret to her and made it clear that they would never purposefully offend her because they took customers’ dietary requirements extremely seriously. They also asked her for additional information.
While asking for information may sound like a responsible action, it’s very rare that it actually results in something. Every day, many people order food online, and many of them also lodge complaints. However, it is rare to hear that there has been any solution to their complaint or that companies like Zomato have tried to change something.
