Bike taxi aggregator Rapido is often used by single individuals who are looking for a commute. Not only guys but many women also avail their service as it is convenient, faster, and cheaper than booking a cab. However, there have been some instances when the Rapido drivers have overstepped their boundaries when communicating with a female customer.

Recently, a Delhi woman made some allegations against a Rapido rider that sparked conversations

The woman took to social media and claimed that the driver made her uncomfortable with his remarks, asking her personal questions. She also mentioned that the rider reached out to her on WhatsApp the next day with unsolicited messages. The woman wrote a post on Reddit saying,

“Hey everyone, I booked a ride from Rapido yesterday. This guy dropped me off at my location and started asking me personal questions when I was paying him. I don’t feel bad about any small talk so I started talking (sic)”

“Then this guy said something along the lines of ‘Aap itne young aur sundar ho fir mangetar kyu.’ I brushed it off and in nervous laughter said ‘thank you bhaiya’ to which he said ‘please bhaiya mat bolo aur ho sake to apne socials share krdo,’ I lied that I don’t use social media and just ran away”

The woman also shared a screenshot of messages from the Rapido rider

Sharing a screenshot of the texts that she received from the man alleging that they belonged to the Rapido driver, she wrote,

“Today this guy called me dozens of times and even texted like it’s okay to breach my personal privacy”

According to the reports by Hindustan Times, the claims could not be verified independently. They have contacted the company, but they haven’t replied yet.

What does Rapido have to say about the incident?

One user asked the lady if she had reported the incident to the company,

“Do report this to the Rapido team as well with a screenshot of this”

The woman replied by saying,

“I tried but they just said that we’ll see what we can do.”

Here is how netizens react to the post

One user wrote,

“I’ve stopped using Rapido in Delhi altogether. Once, I was coming back home with a middle-aged driver, and he started deviating from the route to some weird and sketchy route. I had the maps app on and asked him where he was going, then he started stuttering that he couldn’t understand the route. The road that had to be taken was straightened. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable. Since then I stopped using Rapido altogether. I only use Uber now.”

Another one wrote,

“As a man this is utter shameless behaviour. Really disappointed to see what women have to go through so commonly.”

The third one suggested her to use Uber or Ola,

sis dont use rapido, use uber or ola

in rapido when you call your driver or when the driver calls you they give your personal number, whereas in uber or ola the call is routed through company number and they cant see your number.

also if u use upi make sure to change the default upi id to something else other than for eg. 999XXXXX@paytm

they can get your number from there also ( also uber moto is a lot cheaper than rapido most of the times)

It is indeed a shameful incident and the Rapido riders should refrain from such unprofessional behavior.
