Indian Railways is among the world’s largest rail networks and serves millions of travelers every day. Owing to railways’ huge base, the Indian government always makes efforts so that the passenger base increases day by day. Even though Indian Railways has come a long way, travelers often experience quite a few issues on an ongoing basis that degrade the overall experience of their journey.

Over the past few years, increasing numbers of travelers have complained about escalating prices of train fares and the nagging problem of black market tickets, which is gradually making railway travel a challenge for the masses.

While inflation and increasing cost of operations can be the reasons for periodic fare increases, most commuters believe that the cost of train tickets, particularly popular segments like Sleeper, AC 3-tier, and Tatkal, has become too heavy. Recently, a netizen raised a similar kind of complaint on social media. Indian Railways has also responded to it.

A netizen complained about the high ticket prices of trains

A passenger named Ansari Shakir recently took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to raise a complaint about the high prices of trains. While talking about this issue, he highlighted how the problem of the black market is also increasing in ticket selling. Speaking about this, he wrote in his tweet:

@RailMinIndia Dear Sir, the problem related to tickets is increasing day by day and the brokers are selling all the tickets in black. The cost of a sleeper ticket is 700 rupees but the same ticket agents are selling it for 1500 rupees and a common man has no other option except buying the ticket under compulsion. So when will this be stopped, please tell me the answer.

Indian Railways started using AI and machine learning technology to curb the black market of tickets

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that these kinds of complaints have been raised against the ticket-selling system of Indian Railways. Every day, we hear these kinds of complaints from all over the country. Now, as per recent reports, the Indian Railways is stepping up its efforts to combat this longstanding issue. To stop this, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has announced the use of cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Additionally, the Indian Railways intends to implement biometric technology in order to improve passenger verification and guarantee authenticity.
