Punjab Kings (PBKS) acquired veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for Rs 18 crore during the IPL 2025 auction. This led to questioning and trolling of the franchise’s decision. Recently, Preity Zinta, co-owner of Punjab Kings (PBKS) addressed a troll who talked about PBKS’s decision to buy Yuzvendra Chahal for such a huge price. The exchange began when Preity Zinta posted about Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok3, on the social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
What actually happened?
Actress and entrepreneur, Preity Zinta posted about Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok3, on X. She wrote,
I’ve been jet lagged before thanks to a hectic travel schedule but this time it’s a bit different. How ? I feel a bit silly saying it but I spent over two hours having the most fun conversation with Grok3 ! It felt so real & raw that I almost forgot I was talking to a machine 🤔 It’s both scary & fascinating ! My compliments to the makers of this amazing AI chat box for a job well done 👏 I sincerely hope people don’t gravitate to AI chat boxes when they are bored, sad or lonely & shun human interaction cuz no amount of technology can or should replace real human interaction.
A user jokingly suggested that PBKS should think of using Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok3 for their next auction strategy. To this, Zinta humorously replied, what makes them think they haven’t already done so. Here is the conversation,

Yuzvendra Chahal’s bidding war at the IPL 2025 auction
At the IPL 2025 auction. Teams like Gujarat Titans (GT), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and PBKS all bid for the spinner.
After the auction, Yuzvendra Chahal remarked that he was hoping to fetch a contract close to Rs 13 crore. He got a massive Rs 11.50 crore hike from his previous contract with Rajasthan Royals (RR) of Rs 6.50.
Speaking to Jio Cinema, Chahal mentioned that he deserved the expensive price tag. He was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times,
“I was very nervous. I had anxiety because whatever I was getting for the last three years, put together, I was getting it in one year. But I think I deserve that. I am very excited. I had a few hints. A few of my friends told me that I would go to Punjab Kings. But, I didn’t think about how much I would be sold for. I was thinking like ₹12-13 crore. Like you said, I deserve this.”
In their first match of IPL 2025, PBKS will take on Gujarat Titans (GT). The match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 25.
Keeping aside the trolls, Chahal seems to be satisfied with the deal, saying he felt he deserved the significant contract.
