Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhash’s suicide on December 9, 2024, came as a shock. The man ended his life leaving behind his 24-page suicide note, a 90-minute video, and a list of his last wishes. Atul’s tragic death has led to widespread outrage on social media. Many enraged people are demanding justice under the hashtags #JusticeForAtulSubhash and #MenToo.
It has also brought along topics that there is an alarming misuse of laws meant to protect women, which is having devastating consequences for men like Atul. Several activists and lawyers have reportedly agreed to this.

In his 24-page suicide note, Atul held his wife, Nikita Singhania, responsible for the plight
34-year-old techie Atul Subhas left a 24-page suicide note where he accused his wife Nikita Singhania of ‘explicit instigation for suicide’. He also mentioned that she had lodged nine false cases against him, including murder, harassment for money, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, and dowry. However, the cases were later withdrawn by his wife.
Atul said,
“My wife has registered nine cases against me. Six cases are in the lower court and three in the high court”
Atul was also not allowed to meet his 4-year-old son. According to the note and video recorded by Atul, his wife had demanded Rs. 3 crore alimony along with Rs. 80,000 per month for maintenance. The incident has left everyone in shock and raised the questions yet again. As per reports, Nikita initially demanded Rs. 1 crore for alimony, which she later increased by Rs. 2 crore, making it a total of Rs. 3 crore.

District court judge, Rita Kaushik, demanded a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh
During the case hearing, when Atul tried to clarify that he didn’t have that much money, the district court judge, Rita Kaushik, ignored his pleas and said that he certainly had that much money, or else why would his wife demand the same. Reportedly, the judge also demanded a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh to settle the case.
The District Court judge reportedly told Bengaluru techie to commit suicide. Rita Kaushik is currently serving as the judge of the Jaunpur Principal Family Court. In his suicide note, he also added that Rita Kaushik and a court clerk also demanded Rs. 3 lakhs to schedule the hearing dates.

When Atul Subhash denied the bribe to the clerk, he was warned of a court ruling against him and mandating a monthly alimony of Rs. 80,000 to his estranged wife, Nikita Singhania.
The late techie further alleged that his wife Nikita taunted him during court hearings, urging him to take his own life
The harassment was not limited to financial demands. Allegedly, Nikita and her family demanded huge sums of money, including Rs. 3 crore to settle legal disputes and an additional Rs. 30 lakh for visitation rights to their four-year-old son. Atul paid Rs.2 lakh each month for his son’s expenses but was still denied access to his child.

Who is Atul Subhash’s wife, Nikhita Singhania?
According to her LinkedIn profile, Nikita Singhania is a Delhi-based AI engineer. She has a B.Tech degree from Banasthali Vidyapith and an MBA degree in Finance from Jaipuria Institute of Management. She is an AI/ML Computational Science Specialist at Accenture.
She began her career as an intern at Codex Infosolutions and HDB Financial Services Ltd. After that, she also worked with Meritto. Nikita joined the IT company, Accenture in 2021 as a senior analyst. She was promoted and became a consultant in the same company. It seems that she has deactivated her LinkedIn profile a while ago.
As per Nikita’s last post, and if the data on Glassdoor is to be compared, her current salary could have been estimated to be between Rs. 5-12 LPA, including base and additional pay in Accenture.
Furious netizens started tagging Accenture and urged them to fire Nikita. After receiving a lot of angry tweets, Accenture locked its Twitter handle.
In his suicide note, Atul exposed the alleged existing judicial bias and corruption
He accused a Uttar Pradesh family court judge of ignoring his appeals and taking Nikita’s side. He claimed to have witnessed a court officer accepting bribes openly.
After this incident was circulated on social media, everyone wanted Atul Subhash to be served with justice. Many also demanded that his accused wife, Nikita Singhania be fired by her current company.

Atul left a note for his son Vyom
In his suicide note, Atul Subhash wrote to his son Vyom,
“I can sacrifice 100 sons like you for my father. I can sacrifice a 1000 of me for you.”
Nikita, along with her mother, brother, and uncle, has been named in an FIR for abetment to suicide
After Atul Subhash’s tragic suicide, Bengaluru police filed an FIR against four people, Atul’s wife, Nikita Singhania; his mother-in-law, Nisha Singhania; Nikita’s brother, Anurag Singhania and Nikita’s uncle, Sushil Singhania.
Bengaluru police filed an FIR after Bikas Kumar, Atul Subhash’s brother lodged a police complaint at Marathahalli Police Station. Nisha and her family have been charged under section 108 (abetment of suicide) and section 3 (5) (establishes joint criminal liability when two or more people act with a common intention) of the BNS.
Atul Subhash’s brother, Bilas Kumar disclosed his dead brother’s last wish
In his 24-page suicide note, Atul Subhash listed his last wishes. He also asked his family not to do his Asthi Visarjan until his tormentors were punished. In the video recorded by Atul, he was seen holding a sign that read “Justice is Due.” He also requested custody of his son to his parents.
In a conversation with ANI, Bilas Kumar revealed his late brother’s last wish and shared that he wanted his ashes to be devoured in Ganga if he is served justice going against the corrupt system.

However, he also said that if he fails to win against the system, Atul wishes his mortal remains to be devoured in a gutter outside the court. His brother also added that there should be a proper investigation into this matter, and the culprits should be punished.
He also insisted that Justice Rita Kaushik should also be investigated in his brother’s suicide case.

Atul Subhash’s father, Pawan Kumar accused the biased and corrupt judiciary system of his 34-year-old son’s death
In an interview with ANI, Atul Subhash’s father remarked that the court didn’t follow the law and order. Devastated by his son’s death, he even accused the Supreme Court of being biased and added that the judicial system pushed his son to the extent of committing suicide during the ongoing battle over divorce and child custody.
Pawan Kumar also stated that his son was tortured mentally and physically, as he was forced to travel from Bengaluru to Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh). He further added that he hopes India’s judicial system soon announces its final verdict in this case so that it can send a positive message loud and clear to all the men who are scared of marriage at the moment due to divorce law amendments.
