Soldiers always stand in front of their country protecting their motherland. In this process, they are always ready to sacrifice their life even if they have to leave behind their family and children grieving.
But below are the wives of some of the soldiers who decided to make their husband proud and leaving behind their grief.

1. Neeta Deswal
In the year 2016, at the time of the counter-insurgency operation, Major Amit Deswal sacrificed his life for mother India, in Manipur. Post two years, in the year 2018, Major Amit’s wife and mother to a 5-year-old, Neeta Deswal, joined the Indian Army as a “tribute” to her late husband.

2. Nitika Kaul
Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal died during a fight with the terrorists, at the Pulwama attack in 2019, and was presented with the Shaurya Chakra. On May 29th, 2021, his wife, Nitika Kaul, joined the Indian Army with the post of Lieutenant, after going through the Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

3. Shalini Singh
When Major Avinash Singh Bhadauria (29) sacrificed his life in 2001, after killing 4 terrorists all alone in an altercation in Kashmir. On September 7, 2002, Shalini joined as a commissioned officer with the Indian Army. Post retiring, she turned out to be a motivational speaker and life coach.
4. Garima Abrol
Squadron Leader Samir Abrol was martyred when flying an IAF Mirage 2000 TI aircraft for test sortie just after 4 years of his wedding. In December 2020, his wife Garima Abrol graduated from the Air Force Academy and became a Flying Officer in IAF.

5. Swati Mahadik
In the year 2015, Col. Santosh Mahadik died in his encounter with terrorists at Kupwara. His wife, Swati Mahadik, who is also a mother of two young kids, decided to join the Indian army as a tribute to his husband. Therefore, when she was 37, she went through 11 months of hard training and joined the army as a Lieutenant.

6. Sushmita Pandey
When Major Neeraj Pandey died at the time of Operation Rhino, he also had a 3-year-old son, named Rudrash Pandey. But, in the year 2018, a week pre Major Pandey’s second martyrdom anniversary, his wife, Sushmita Pandey, became a Lieutenant, in the Indian army.
7. Priya Semwal
Naik Semwal sacrificed his life at the time of the counter-insurgency operation in Tawang. But Priya chose to join the army. And it was for the very first time that the wife of a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) became an officer.
8. Neeru Sambyal
Just after three years of his marriage Rifleman Ravinder Singh Sambyal died. But instead of grieving, she decided to make her husband proud and, Neeru Sambyal decided to join the Indian Army, and went through training for the same. In 2018, she was commissioned as a Lieutenant.
9. Kanika Rane
When she was just 30 years old, Kanika Rane joined the Indian Army as a Lieutenant, just post 2 years after her husband died Major Kaustubh, was sacrificed his life in an encounter with terrorists. Kanika went through Service Selection Board (SSB) in the initial attempt and then went through 49 weeks of training, before becoming an Indian Army officer.

10. Gauri Mahadik
Post three years, Major Prasad Mahadik, martyred his wife Gauri Mahadik commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army in March 2020. A law graduate and company secretary, Gauri left her exams to go through the SSB exams.

11. Sangeeta Mall
Sangeeta who was a teacher by profession tied a knot with Shishir Mall who was a rifleman in 2013. But post two years after their wedding Shishir Mall was lost his life in a gun battle in J&K. Sangeeta then left her job and decided to join the Army.

Her husband, Rifleman Shishir Mall was martyred in Baramula in September 2015.
She suffered a miscarriage post his martyrdom.

12. Nidhi Mishra Dubey
After her husband’s Naik Mukesh Dubey died, Nidhi Mishra Duney’s journey to becoming an officer with the Indian Army was full of difficulties. After unable to pass the SSB exam five times, she, at last, cleared the exam and went through gruelling training, before joining the Army in 2017.
