Love stories are often mistaken as fairy tales. We all want our own, unique love story. But does that always work out? Do we have any assurance that the person we love, would love us the same way forever?
Love is full of ups and downs. People fall in and out of life. Impulsive decisions, ego, pride all can affect love terribly. To stay with someone who doesn’t love you is much worse than to stay with someone you don’t love.
Just like that, our favorite Bollywood celebrities are no different either. Some of them fall in love, start a family but then fall out.
Just like that, today we’d be seeing Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan’s faded and lost love story.
Back in the day, Malaika was excelling in her career. She was the famous Chaiyya Chaiyya girl. She also got featured in her lavender lehenga, in the 90’s hit pop song, Gur Nal Ishq Mitha. She was by far the only girl in Bollywood back then, who could even pull off traditional Indian outfits in the sexiest way possible.
Then we have Arbaaz Khan, the innocent, charming, and very attractive man of Bollywood. At that time he made a debut in a couple of films like Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Darrar, etc. But clearly, we all loved his appearance in, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Where he played the role of Imraan’s brother and in the end helped him to run to propose to Genelia at the airport.
Things took a huge turn when Arbaaz and Malaika met on the sets of Dabangg in 2010. Malaika played the part of an intel song dancer in the song, Munni Badnam Hui. Then the rest is history. Those two partnered up, rose grew, and established together after that.
Neither of them flourished well in their careers before Dabangg. They were not open much about their private lives as well. But since the film, it took a turn for the good for both of them, brewing a new love story.
The first meeting
Their meeting was kinda similar to how most of the Bollywood couples met. It was during a shoot. Surprisingly the shoot was for a coffee brand. Well, that did compensate for an actual coffee date, eh?
During the shoot, they both were eyeing each other. By the end of the shoot, both of them were head over heels for each other. During an interview to a magazine, Malaika said,
“I was shooting for the MR coffee ad with Arbaaz Khan. The catchphrase for the ad was ‘Real pleasure can’t come in an instant’ The catchphrase and the ad became a huge controversy because it had a lot of se#ual undertones. But Arbaaz and I got along really well at the shoot. I had a boyfriend in my life at that time and Arbaaz, too, was seeing someone, but all the same, we exchanged telephone numbers and every day we chatted on the phone. A month later, we finally went out on an official date.”
Malaika spilling the beans
In an interview with The Times of India Malaika said,
“Even before I had shot the MR coffee ad with him, Amu (Amrita Arora) and I had gone clubbing one night when we saw Arbaaz and his friend Sajid Khan DJing. My sister was nuts about Salman, just like all other girls, as he was a big star even then. But for me, when I saw Arbaaz, I told her, ‘You girls like Salman right? I like him. He is my kind of guy.”
After dating for almost five years, the love birds tied the knots on December 12, 1998. They had a huge church wedding, then had a nikah as the close ones at a private ceremony.
She even added during an interview that her mom would not let her forget that she is married to a Muslim man. But that wasn’t much of a big deal for her, cause she was head over heels for Arbaaz. Moreover, she did date anyone until she met him, sounds super cute.
The love they had for each other was out of the box. Even after years of marriage, their love did not fade. Malaika said Arbaaz used to surprise her randomly, his romantic gestures made her go all bubbly. Even cheesy lines weren’t ignored, with future planning a lot of cute couple stuff.
The only thing Malaika gets irritated about Arbaaz is his ability to laugh at his own joke. I mean who doesn’t do that Malaika. Also, the fact that he’s very untidy. Sounds like Arbaaz is my spirit animal.
Not only Malaika, but Arbaaz also makes sure to compliment his wife. He says that she plays the role given to her perfectly. But the only con is, she doesn’t accept her faults easily.
In 2002, Malaika gave birth to a baby boy Arhaan, and they became proud parents.
Trouble in paradise
This is where things started going downhill. Arbaaz started getting involved with some other girl. Mailaika is dating Arjun Kapoor. They filed a divorce case and became prepared for it.
Malaika wanted the custody of her son and did meet her lawyer a few times. How did the most perfect, dreamy wedding turn into a disaster? It was all impulsive and none of us saw that coming.
Been 20 years since the spark between the couple died out. Malaika is very happily dating Arjun Kapoor. Arbaaz kinda went away from the industry though he could’ve done better. They do not talk to each other, not in the public’s eye of course.
