Kangana Ranaut reply Shashi Tharoor

Proposal for monthly salary to homemakers in the election manifesto of actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan‘s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has sparked off an exchange between actor Kangana Ranaut and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor.

Recently, Kamal Haasan assured ‘payment’ to homemakers for their work at home. His idea is about recognizing housework done by homemakers as a salaried profession. In December last year, in his seven-point Governance and Economic Agenda, Kamal Haasan had claimed:

“Homemakers will get their due recognition through payment for their work at home which hitherto has been unrecognised and unmonetised, thus raising the dignity of our womenfolk”

Echoing the view of Kamal Haasan, Politician Shashi Tharoor, who is very active on social media, appreciated his idea. Shashi Tharoor claimed that Kamal Haasan’s idea will help recognize the hard-work done by the houseworkers. He wrote:

“I welcome @ikamalhaasan ’s idea of recognising housework as a salaried profession, w/the state govt paying a monthly wage to homemakers. This will recognise & monetise the services of women homemakers in society, enhance their power& autonomy & create near-universal basic income.”

Kangana Ranaut was quick to notice the tweet and opposed it. In her tweet, Kangana wrote that this move will be reducing a home owner to an employee and trying to pay God for his creation. She wrote:

“Don’t put a price tag on sex we have with our love, don’t pay us for mothering our own, we don’t need salary for being the Queens of our own little kingdom our home, stop seeing everything as business. Surrender to your woman she needs all of you not just your love/respect/salary.”
